Actions without specific directions are completely useless. If you are working hard the whole day, but you do not know which thing is most important to do at specific time, then you end up wasting plenty of time. There are various people who are working hard, but they are still complaining about the unaccomplished desires of life. In this way, these people may feel they're wasting their time on a daily basis. If you are also facing this problem of lacking direction and specificity in life, then working on Goal Setting first can help.

Goals and their importance:

Friedrich Nietzsche in his book "Man’s Search for Meaning" has mentioned, “He who has a WHY to live for can bear with almost any HOW”. According to this quote, it is highly important to know about the reasons for living. This WHY in the quote represents the goals of life. If you have specific goals set in life then you cannot wander here and there. You'll be able to deal with any kind of circumstances for accomplishing those goals.

These following are three types of goals;

1. Mastery Goals:

These types of goals are highly specific and they provide you with constant focus on particular tasks in which you can gain mastery. These goals are highly important, for increasing the performance. For instance: Getting the highest marks in a particular subject.

2. Performance- approach goals:

In this type of goal, competition is a key component. Many times people in organizations are trying to get equal/better results than their peers, this competition lead people towards improving the performance related to any specific goal. These goals are highly productive and many people are getting desired results in less time as well. We strive for excellence when we surround ourselves with those who do the same.

3. Performance-avoidance goals:

When people are working in a group and trying to achieve one goal, then they are having maximum competition among them as well. These people are also watching each other and learning from mistakes of their peers. This type of goal is helping people in avoiding those mistakes which others are doing and accomplish any specific goal by learning from the mistakes of others.

Benefits of Goal Setting

For a successful life, it is highly essential to set some goals and work for achieving them. Every successful individual have specific goals which they have achieved. The key is that they don't stop there and are still achieving others. In this way, it is going to be very easy for people, to work in a smart way instead of just hard work.

Following are benefits of goal setting;

1. Provide complete focus:

Many people are nowadays complaining about less concentration and focus. There are plenty of things which are trying to grab the attention of people and they are completely consumed in those things. In this way, when a person has specific goals they are completely focused to those specific tasks. Goal setting provides you with the ability to prioritize everything which you can do on a daily basis.

2. Clarity of path:

If you have many roads in front of you and you do not know which you are supposed to choose, then you will end up in choosing the wrong path at the wrong time. In this way, when you have clear vision about where you want to go then it will be easy to save time and efficiently perform any task. Goals provide clarity of path to any individual.

3. Motivation:

One of the keys to achieving anything in life is motivation. If you are motivated enough, then you will be able to get anything which you desire in life. When you have completely organized goals in life, then you also get enough motivation for performing those tasks. Because you have a clear idea of where you want to go.
