In 2021, he posted highlight videos online, hoping a private high school in the U.S. would sponsor him. His dream came true when a school accepted him, and he left his family behind to pursue his passion.

However, his journey took an unexpected turn. Shortly after arriving in early 2022, the school shut down, leaving the 15-year-old homeless and penniless in a foreign country. 

Ama became homeless because the private high school that sponsored him unexpectedly shut down shortly after his arrival in the United States. Without the school's support, he was left stranded in a foreign country with no financial resources and no place to stay. It was a devastating setback, but fortunately, 

With nowhere to go, a former staff member reached out to David McComb, a diner owner in Pennsylvania. Without hesitation, David agreed to take Ama in, despite already having a full house with three kids of his own.

David McComb is an accomplished litigator with extensive experience in complex commercial and employment matters in state and federal courts. His decision to take in Ama Sow was a compassionate act that has significantly impacted Sow's life.

David's wife, Nicole, quickly embraced Ama as part of their family. Ama had never seen a dishwasher or taken a hot shower before coming to America, and his experiences grounded everyone in the household. He enrolled at Montour High School, where his basketball dreams began to take shape. His talent and determination made him a standout player, and he flourished both on and off the court.

Ama Sow, now a senior at Montour High School, is excelling both academically and athletically. He is committed to playing NCAA Division 1 basketball for the University of Tennessee at Martin next year

While his basketball career is taking off, he considers the McComb family his greatest blessing. "A family is going to be there forever," he said. "They're going to love you forever. They're going to help you forever…That's what I have here, I think".
