Have a day!

A piece of helpful advice for getting through stay home, stay safe

By Mark FowlerPublished 6 years ago 3 min read

ok...I will explain the drawing in a few, but I hope you are all staying home and staying safe.

When I was in high school, “Have a nice day” t-Shirts, bumper stickers, posters and that sort of stuff we’re all the rage. Sort of like poop emojis now! Me, being the Smart Alec I am, drew the above picture to make fun of those. I used to tell people “Have a Day!” And when people would ask “ Don’t you mean have a nice day?” I would tell them “No...just have a day! What business is it of mine whether it’s nice or not?” 🤣

I was a weird kid, I admit it! But, in recent days, I have come up with a new, practical use for my old drawing! Right now, a lot of us are stuck at home. We can’t go back to work, and even with some states and communities opening up, a lot of us won’t be able to return to work for quite a while. It's a little depressing!

I am sure many of you, like me, have done a lot of Netflix binging while we’ve been locked down, and it’s pretty easy to get into a pattern of staying in pajamas or sweats all day, and sitting in front of thenTV, under a blanket, but that’s where my silly little drawing comes in!

How to have a day

1) Get up! Set your alarm just like when you had a job.

2) Shower and get dressed. Now you don’t have to go suit and tie, but put on real clothes, not pajamas, and not sweats, unless you are going to work out- but after you work out, shower again, and put on real clothes!

3) Don’t turn on the TV! I admit, this is a hard one for me because my job allows for some TV time in the morning, but I recommend scheduling TV time, and kinda limiting it.

4) go to work at a scheduled time every day. Now, what that work consists of is up to you. Read a book. Write a book. Musicians like myself might try working on some new music. Learn a new skill. Paint, cook a new recipe, crochet, whatever! Just do something!

Keep this schedule daily, just like you would at your job! Work four hours, take a lunch, then get back to it, or start another task, but be sure you are staying active. The more you treat these lockdown days like work days, the less you will feel bored, and the easier it will be to transition back once this is all over.

On top of that, you will have used this time to do something you always wanted to do. Think about it...if you could turn half of your “Someday I wanna’s” into “Yesterday I did”s? It is completely up to you what kind of day you have, but I am willing to bet most of them will be nice days, if you follow this advice!

I am following this advice myself! I have always wanted to be a published writer, and that is why I signed up for Vocal in the first place. I get up, get dressed, then start writing. After lunch, music time. I am still struggling with the TV, but I can write while watching, so it still counts!

This is how you have a day, every day! Make it a point to stay busy, and you will have a day every day, and most of them will be nice!

Those of you finding yourself homeschooling your children, I recommend making them do the same thing. Do homeschool the same way you do school and it will eventually go smoothly!

Try it., let me know how it works out for you!

Please share this with everyone you know, and if ya dig my writing, please hit That tip button! I could use the cash!

Thank you and have a day!
