God Gives Power to Get Wealth

Wealth and provision are not simply the results of human labor, intelligence, or opportunity. While those elements are important, the Bible teaches us that God is the ultimate source of our ability to prosper. This truth is beautifully captured in Deuteronomy 8:18, which serves as a foundation for understanding the divine principles of wealth creation.

Deuteronomy 8:18 (KJV):

“But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.”

Let’s break this down and explore what it truly means when we say that God gives power to get wealth.

1. Wealth is Not an Accident — It’s Empowerment

Wealth does not happen by chance. According to the Word, God gives power—that is, ability, strength, wisdom, opportunity, and favor. Whether through business ideas, investments, careers, or creative endeavors, God empowers His people.

James 1:17 (NIV):

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights...”

Your ability to think, to build, to connect, to produce value—all of that originates from God. Recognizing this makes us humble stewards, not prideful owners.

2. Wealth Has a Covenant Purpose

Deuteronomy 8:18 explains that God gives wealth so He may “establish His covenant.” This means that wealth is meant to advance His kingdom on earth—supporting ministries, helping the poor, feeding the hungry, and building institutions that reflect godly values.

Genesis 12:2-3 (NIV):

“I will bless you... and you will be a blessing... and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

When God blesses you financially, it’s not just about comfort—it’s about commission. You are blessed to be a blessing.

3. Diligence and Work Ethic Are Godly

While God gives the power, we are also called to partner with Him through diligence. The Bible is full of encouragements about the value of hard work, wise planning, and integrity.

Proverbs 22:29 (KJV):

“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings...”

Ecclesiastes 9:10 (NIV):

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might...”

God often blesses the work of your hands—not idleness, not shortcuts. Therefore, our pursuit of wealth must be rooted in diligence and godly character.

4. Wealth is Meant to Be Stewarded, Not Worshipped

God does not condemn wealth. In fact, many biblical heroes were wealthy: Abraham, Job, Solomon, and Joseph. But Scripture does warn us not to trust in riches or allow them to control us.

1 Timothy 6:10 (NIV):

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil...”

Matthew 6:24 (KJV):

“Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

We are not meant to serve wealth—we are meant to use it in service of God.

5. Generosity Unlocks Greater Blessings

One of the clearest signs that someone understands God as their provider is their willingness to give. Generosity reflects God’s heart. As we bless others, God trusts us with more.

Proverbs 11:25 (NIV):

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

Luke 6:38 (KJV):

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over...”

The more we pour out, the more God pours in—so we can pour out even more.

6. God’s Blessing Adds No Sorrow

Wealth that is obtained through God’s power is peaceful, sustaining, and joyful. It doesn’t come with compromise or corruption. It brings rest, not stress.

Proverbs 10:22 (KJV):

“The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.”

Worldly wealth often demands your peace and your soul. God’s blessing, however, enriches every part of your life—your finances, family, and faith.

7. Seek First the Kingdom

Jesus taught that when we make God our priority, everything else falls into place—including provision and wealth.

Matthew 6:33 (KJV):

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

When you prioritize God, you never have to chase wealth. Wealth begins to follow you as you walk in purpose, integrity, and obedience.

Final Thoughts: Walking in God's Wealth Plan

When we understand that God gives power to get wealth, our mindset shifts from scarcity to stewardship, from anxiety to assurance. We begin to walk in:

Gratitude — knowing every blessing is from God

Faith — believing He will provide

Purpose — using wealth to serve His Kingdom

Wisdom — managing resources with integrity

Generosity — being a blessing to others

A Prayer to Declare:

“Lord, I thank You for giving me the power to get wealth. I receive wisdom, favor, and creativity from You. Help me to honor You with my resources and to steward them faithfully. Let my life and my finances reflect Your glory and goodness. In Jesus' name, Amen.”
