She was racist, thoughtless, and cruel.

A happier, more productive 2025 to all.

As a live-in caregiver, I know my job can and will be difficult sometimes. I am prepared for all of the challenges that come my way. I signed up with an Agency and passed all of their tests. The salary per hour wasn’t bad. They offered me a case at a little more than what they usually pay their caregivers. I grabbed the opportunity innocently without checking with my gut or instincts. Forgetting that what’s too good to be true usually is. I had lots of plans and wanted a job. They gave me a case with an 89-year-old female who was manipulative, racist, cruel, thoughtless, mean-spirited, and not liked by her family.

In one day, I learned why the agency decided to pay me a little more, but it was too late. I had already accepted employment with her. I also learned why none of the aides stayed for long after I went in.

I knew hell; I had lived there most of my life. I went in with a plan, so there was nothing her nasty attitude, life, fate, or destiny could do to contribute to my failure. Life taught me that when I give my best, then failure will fear me.

Your best will beat failure every time.

For five and a half months, I endured hell and battled Satan. She lost her husband recently and was grieving. I thought that was the reason for her negative attitude. It wasn’t. She treated him horribly. Death was a gift from God to him. Her family was shocked at how I got along with her. They were super kind and thoughtful to me, hoping I would stay. They were frustrated with having to be recycling caregivers.

Whenever they visited, they stared at me in awe. They couldn’t understand how I, a stranger, got along with her. I was praised and congratulated daily for doing a good job. They weren’t aware that I came in with a plan, and failure wasn’t one of my options.

When it was time for me to leave, they begged me to stay.

I don’t do cold, and it was getting cold. I left for somewhere warmer. They got someone temporary and begged me to come back. I did. I went back because they were kind to me. I didn’t have to touch my salary for the entire time and saved every penny. I had plans for my salary and focused on what and why I came in. I allowed nothing negative to distract me from my plans. Nothing negative and cruel that she did could throw me off course.

She died, and I still communicate with the family. If I needed references, they gave me without a second thought. I went in with a plan and allowed nothing to distract me.

We know what 2024 was, so for 2025, anything and everything you are going in, go with a plan. Allow nothing and no one to distract you, throwing you off course. Give your best no matter the circumstances or situation. Then, failure will begin to fear you.

If your heart could speak, what would it say?

For 2025, make failure fear you by giving your best in all situations!
