As the tires crunch over the fallen leaves my eyes watch as more yellow orange and red leaves graceful dance along my cobblestone driveway. I knew as soon as I opened the door the cool fall air will hit my skin and I’ll be able to breath the fresh air and familiarity of being home. I click the button on my visor and the right side of the garage begin to open as I slowly pull into my sacred space. I grabbed my purse off the passenger seat and place my feet onto the cool concrete below me. As I step out of the car I look around the garage in the corner upon a platform stands my partners took bench and chest. The bright red is stark against the light grey walls and makes the red of the American flag seem even older than it is. The whole garage is neatly organized just like my husband likes it. Tools and bench in one area car cleaners and special pieces in cabinets and always freshly swept. The garage and shed outside are his domain. The shed matches our home which is light grey with blueberry blue doors and shutters. It subtle yet stands out surrounded by trees for miles. Our drive way has woods on both sides for 1/8 of a mile until it opens to our front yard and house.
As I walk into the house I take out my phone and hang my purse coat and scarf onto the white bench that’s against the wall and has hooks and separators for Ross and I. I see he’s home and keep waking towards the open floor plan. As I walk forward on my right is my kitchen and left living room only to be separated by an island the size of, well a very small island.
The kitchen is my second favorite place it has beautiful white marble counter tops, stainless steal aplliances with a double ovens and a fireplace with wood burning pizza arch above it. Open shelving on top, in the same deep wood coloring as the floor and beams in the cieling, holds bone white dish wear and beautifully organized spices and foods. The lower cabinets are very stormy grey blue hold all appliances that don’t sit on the counter like the espresso machine and kitchen aid mixer. The farmhouse sink fits perfectly in the island and makes rinsing dishes and placing into the dishwasher next to it clean and effortless . The backslash is a simple white subway tile with a slim blue border matching the color of the island.
Looking to my left I see ross sitting on the large beige L shaped couch in front of a 70inch TV hanging on the wall as some sitcom is playing while he turns to say hello. My eyes shift and below the tv I see the old steamer trunk in a dark deep brown with leather straps in which we keep our blankets in and pillows for other seasons. On top of this site pictures of us and family in all types of frames in the cream color category. Between the tv and couch sits a white square table made of old “fruit crates” and hold Knick knacks inside and coasters and a pair of feet on top. I finally meet his eyes smiling I reply and tell him I’ll be back I just want to change from work.
I countinue my journey passing a bathroom the color grey with a simple toilet and sink wire baskets on the wall holding toilet paper, hand, face, and body towels. Next is my favorite room the library it’s the only room other than the kitchen where I spend the most time. It’s opposite of the master suite. It has shelves lining the walls with a rolling latter that travels around the whole room filled to the brim with books. Ross loves to “ride” the latter while I read on the deep forest green velvet victorian couch. It’s very cozy and I sink in with a good book and can be there for hours. Across from the couch is a large wooden desk and leather chair fit for a CEO but made for us to check emails and Facebook. Finally the last piece other than some plants in the corners is the forest green felted pool table with matching dark wood legs same as the floor and ceiling beams. This room screams romantic Victorian era but also comfortably and frivolity.
Finally my destination the master suite. I walk in and immediatly smell the soft scent of the essential oils I have running today is vanilla. I want to jump onto the king size bed across the room against the far wall. It looks so comfy with it’s dark grey bedding and light grey walls and so many pillows I could make a bed and sleep on the pillows alone; but I know I’ll fall asleep. Instead I head for the closet. Inside are two sides mine is the right and Ross has the left. We have clothes hanging shoes lining the floor and in the center like a huge island in a kitchen is a dresser with all our pants and foldables. Above are hats specialty items and your extra odds and ends. Each side has a laundry basket and I throw my work clothes in and put my comfy home clothes on. I walk out and head to the master bath it’s white and grey color scheme double sink with marble counter tops stand up shower and two person clawfooted tub. I quickly wash my makeup off for the day and clean up both sinks. Ross had shaved so little beard hairs were all around and in his sink. When I’m finished I walk out and towards the large mirror leaning against the wall. It has to be 6ft tall it towers over me and I make sure my pores and all the makeup is gone. I place my everyday jewlery on my bedside table and see the door to the deck.
The back deck is accessible by our room and the kitchen both French doors I quickly go out and lean over the rail to breath in the cool air I see our beautiful manicured yard and gaze into the forest behind it. A slight breeze brings me back in and I head to the couch. I snuggle up to ross and pull a blanket over my legs and our black kitten Wednesday Adams comes and sits on my lap and I’m officially home.
