Don't Allow The Past To Destroy Your Future

"Like the Sun, life doesn't turn back. But Humans do!"

"Girl," Poochie warned Velma as she attempted to join her and three friends for breakfast at their favorite cafe. "It's too early for complains so if you are planning to do that, don't bother to sit down."

Velma glanced at the others. Their facial expressions matched Poochie's words. She hissed her teeth, sat down in the middle, and then dished out, "Some friends you are."

"I got this," Poochie said to the others. "Mercy and forgiveness move out three years ago."

"What are you saying?" she demands.

"You are the only one living your dreams of the five of us. We are still struggling to find a way out of the pain and disappointment life keeps throwing at us daily."

"It's not my fault your life is in the mess it is in right now," shoots her anger.

Poochie covered her rage with a fake smile, "You worked three days per week and your 36 hours salary is more than our eighty hours take-home pay."

"Again, it's not my fault you chose the wrong field to go into."

She gazes at her friends, struggling to suppress the rage Velma's responses were igniting. She nods. They read the message and remain silent. "In all areas of our lives, yours are better than ours and have been for the past three years."

"So what?" shot from her cannon of a mouth.

"You have no reason to complain. But you do because your are so trapped in the past and it's negative energy and vibes, you can't see the positive blessings and gifts that's in front of you."

"I had a painful past," she defends.

"So do all of us here," Poochie notified. "Our lives weren't easy. We all grew up in poor single parents' household and was short of everything!"

The others agreed.

"My mother didn't care if I lived or died!" she hurled at them. "And my father didn't stick around either! At least you all had one parent who stick around."

"Who did two and three jobs to keep food on the table. Which was never enough," Poochie battled.

"But one parent was there!" Velma reminds.

"And that didn't stop you from achieving the level of success you are enjoying now. You breezed through college on a full scholarship we didn't get. You went on to get your Masters's Degree in Nursing. So why the hell are you allowing the past to destroy your future!"

"How am I doing that?" she demands.

"By complaining about the little things and not focusing on the big things that are in front of you. Girl, the sun doesn't turn back and retrace its steps after it sets. Neither does life! Humans turn back and look back! Life doesn't!"

"So by complaining about the pain of the past, I am going backwards?"

"Repeat that question," Poochie demands.

Silence hugged her briefly, and she broke away as the tears flowed, "I keep going back, because the pain won't let me go."

"Then you let it go," Poochie suggested. "Free yourself from the pain of the past by focusing on what's in front of you. Because girlfriend," she stressed. "If your focus is only behind you, you are going to crash! And at the speed you are going, you might not make it out alive!"

Her brows shot up in understanding.

"When we focus on the pain in our past, with the glory of the future and present facing us, we put our lives in reverse," Poochie continues to uplift.

Nodding as tears seeped, she said, "I wasn't aware that my actions were so destructive."

"You need to be aware of what's in front of you, appreciate what's there, and stop complaining. Life is good to you, be grateful for your blessing. Don't allow the past to take it away."

"True, the others agreed in unison.

"Thank you so much," she expressed gratitude as tears flowed. "You are good friends. Only a good friend would tell me the truth."

I know many people whose focus is on the past and cannot see the glory, happiness, and love their present and future give to them. Our past can be a tool or a weapon. Use it as a TOOL!
