Do We Have a Life’s Purpose?

Do you ever feel like you’re just going through the motions, lacking direction and passion?

By Call me — Jane! 😘Published 2 years ago 4 min read

From the moment you are born, you embark on a journey filled with questions about your existence:

• "Why am I here?"

• "What is my purpose?"

These questions can be both inspiring and daunting. But what if the answer is simpler than you think?

What if I will tell you now that there is no such thing as predistined purpose? There are no chosen ones, and that you exist here only because your parents decided to procreate. This might be a painful truth to accept.

However, let me tell you that you may not have that specific purpose when you were created, because purpose in life is something that we all create for ourselves. By taking the time to discover who we are, we uncover countless opportunities for personal growth.

Therefore, if you don’t know your purpose yet – that’s fine. You are not alone.

Purpose is something we created inside us, and this will shine brightest on times that you needed the most. Do you know what would that be? Well, that would be the time when we will reach the rock bottom of life. Purpose will emerge for us to push ourselves to get up as this serves us fuels to keep us moving forward especially at times that life is tough. If we have a clear purpose in life, we can see the path ahead of us. We have a sense of satisfaction, and we have something we look forward to. This is something we all wanted, right?

The reason you may not know this yet might be because you have not paused, reflect, and ask yourself these questions.

• What makes you happy?

• What activities do you do that you lose track of time?

• Do the rules inside you that serve us a compass for you to know what’s right and wrong?

• What are your good at?

• What are the things that excites you?

If you are having a hard time answering some of the questions above, you may ask others especially those who really know you. The reason you must do this is because your purpose should reflect your core beliefs and principles.

We just need to:

• Know who we are.

• Reflect the lessons from our mistakes and failures.

• Know the people who are there for us when we need someone the most.

• Have a self-awareness of the reasons behind our every action and decision.

• Dissect who you are for you to know your sense of being.

Now, once we already have answers from those questions, you already have an idea what makes you who you are. Then, you must do the following below:

• You must celebrate your strengths and focus on making them stronger than before.

• You must accept your weaknesses or flaws as they are part of you. This is something we all have.

• You must appreciate those people who are with you every step of the way. They are your people. You must stop chasing those people if you realized that they are not with you at the darkest moments of your time.

At this point, you might realize that you don’t need a huge, flashy goal like being the most popular or the richest. It’s important to see people who have these things for who they are, not just what they have.

All of them if they will really be honest, they will say that these does not make them happy. Sometimes, they will only have that realization in the end. What really matters is knowing yourself and understanding your own values and goals. It’s about finding what’s important to you and being true to yourself.

Moving forward, when you reached the middle of your life, once those lists of goals you created for yourselves have been reached. You will realize by then that the goals are not even important, the important part is who have you become when you reach these goals. This is the crucial part as majority of people forgot who they are and see themselves higher than anyone else.

Finally, when you have reached the pinnacle of your being, you need to realize that the ultimate purpose at that phase is to be of service to others. Help those people who are still struggling to know their purpose. Why? Because every thought and action, even if not immediately visible, connects to something greater. This doesn’t mean we have a predetermined purpose.

The good we do to others tend to return in a cycle:

• Kindness inspires others

• Good deeds create a chain reaction

Like throwing a stone into a pond, ripples of kindness grow larger and spread, eventually returning to us. This loop encourages more acts of kindness, making the world better one good deed at a time.

By understanding ourselves, helping others, and living with compassion and generosity, we give meaning to our lives and the lives of the people around us. Now you must know that your daily actions and decisions shape who you are and the world around you.

So, do you now know the reason of your being? Or your life’s purpose?
