Dedication Determines The Result

- David Stidston

"Success is about dedication. You may not be where you want to be or do what you want to do when you're on the journey. But you've got to be willing to have vision and foresight that leads you to an incredible end." - Usher

Any professional athlete could tell you about how much they really don't enjoy the training sessions, the weights sessions, and all the hours they spend preparing themselves and their bodies for competition. After all, their ultimate dream and passion is in the competition itself, not the training, conditioning, and preparation. The training, conditioning, and preparation involves a lot of hard work, pain, and commitment, pushing the body to the absolute limit, in an attempt to maximize its potential. Attending these sessions, several times a week, requires a hell of a lot of will power and motivation, and above all, dedication. As much as we look upon these athletes and professional sportsmen and sportswomen in great awe and admiration, we tend to forget they are still human. They still experience the same temptations and enticements of doing some of the more leisurely and less strenuous activities, exactly as we do, rather than going off to push their bodies through intense pain and pressure. The difference between these individuals, and those of us who wander through life without success and fulfillment, is that they have dedication. They know that they have to spend hours and hours, week after week, year after year, doing things they don't want to do, in order to relish in the satisfaction and enjoyment of doing what they love, and lap up the success gained from it. They have the mental strength to resist and overcome the temptation of laziness and any easy options. It's a fact, you need to have dedication to the tasks and actions at hand, that are leading you to your goals, success, happiness, and prosperity, in life, if you want to actually achieve such rewards.

No matter the pain, no matter the hard work, no matter the amount of patience required, one must continue to remain fully committed to working towards achieving their goals. Part of this commitment and dedication requires sacrifice, giving up the short term bursts of satisfaction and enjoyment, and the more leisurely activities, and be exchanging them for those mundane, arduous, painful, and physically testing actions, that are propelling us toward success, and long term happiness and satisfaction. It all comes back to us! How much do we really want success, fulfillment, happiness, and prosperity? How committed are we to repel the enticement and temptation of ease and laziness, in order to create a future of satisfaction and accomplishment, through achieving our goals? How much are we prepared to sacrifice for success? What you dedicate yourself to in life is what determines the results you get. If you are dedicated to your job, just to receive your weekly paycheck, then you will live your life achieving just that, which is pretty underwhelming. If you are dedicated to going out with your friends drinking each weekend, then you are in fact dedicating yourself to damage of your health and finances. If you are dedicated to sleeping around, then you will find your dedication for short term sexual satisfaction denies you of the blessing of long term love. If you are dedicated to watching your favorite television show each night, then this dedication will deny you of opportunities and vital time to be working on the actions leading you to succeed and prosper in life. By all means, reward yourself every now and then with times of leisure and short term fun, but never lose focus on the commitment and dedication to what should be your priority in life, and that is to succeed, achieve your goals, and discover a life of happiness.
