Changing Your Mindset, Change Your Life

How Your Mindset Can Change Your life?

By Berina KaricPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

Do you want to change your life? Of course. Who doesn't? Well, the principle of changing what we focus on and how we interpret things has an immense power to move us forward in achieving our goals. It is a principle that works and proves itself again and again. What I am talking about is Mindset: one of those areas of study within the field of psychology.

Mindset is a concept that has been given experimental support in several studies. Needless to say, the idea of mindset is nothing new. However it continues to be powerful because people forget about its power and don't consciously follow through with mindset in their daily life.

So if you're looking to up your game in the success department, start doing these three things:

1. Change Your Negative Self Talk:

This is a biggie because we each contribute to our own success and failure in profound ways that we often fail to recognize. Do you ever find yourself saying things to yourself like "I can't do this" or "This is too hard for me?" Well, stop. What you put your attention on also gets stronger in your mind! So if you are focusing on what you can't do, that will grow. If instead you focus on the positive side of things, that will grow. It is that simple! (Also note your inner dialogue when you are frustrated). I will be honest, it's not always easy to stop negative self-talk; however, here is one exercise that may help:

How To Stop Negative Self Talk

1. When you notice yourself saying something like "I can't do this" or "This is too hard.

2. Ask yourself, "What am I telling myself right now?"

3. Then ask yourself, "Is that helpful for me to be saying to myself right now?"

4. Focus on stopping the negative talk and replace it with something like "I can do this! This might be hard, but I'm going to do my best."

2. Focus on The Process:

You can't always control your results, but you can always work hard and focus on doing your best! One of the most powerful ways to do this is by focusing on "the process" or how you do things rather than worrying about a specific outcome. Think about a time when you were working too hard on something that wasn't going to pan out. You probably felt very discouraged at the time, right? Well, now think of a time when you focused on doing your best and things seemed to work themselves out. Did it feel as bad? In all likelihood it didn't feel as bad because your mindset was in the right place: you were focused on doing your best. Do this and see what happens!

3. You CAN Change Your Mindset:

Actually, we all can because we aren't stuck with a certain mindset that determines how we interpret things. Our mindset is flexible and it changes based on our life experiences, but also by our conscious effort to practice something new. It does take time, but if you start thinking about yourself as someone who is capable and intelligent, then you will become that person.

This is because mindset can change based on our conscious decision. If we think about ourselves as hopeful or as a failure, then we will be those things. I know this may sound too good to be true – and if you're not used to thinking that way about yourself – it is.

However, I can personally attest that once I started really making an effort and practicing the principles and techniques, I was able to change my mindset and become what I wish I always was: hopeful, confident, and intelligent about the things that interested me.

Mindset is a powerful thing, so use it wisely!
