Ben had always been a someday kind of guy.

“Someday, I’ll start my own business.”

“Someday, I’ll take that dream vacation.”

“Someday, I’ll finally get in shape.”

But for years, someday never came. Instead, his life was filled with routines, excuses, and a growing frustration that gnawed at him daily.

He felt stuck in a cycle... working a job he didn’t love, watching opportunities pass him by, and wondering why he still hadn’t made progress toward the life he imagined.

One evening, as he sat on his couch scrolling through social media, he saw a post that hit him hard. It read:

"A year from now, you’ll wish you had started today."

Ben put his phone down. He had seen similar quotes before, but for some reason, this one stuck. Maybe it was because he realized how much time he had already wasted waiting for the “right moment.” Maybe it was because deep down, he knew he had let fear and comfort dictate his choices.

That night, he made a promise to himself: No more waiting. No more someday. It starts now.

Recognizing the Excuses

Ben sat down with a notebook and wrote out all the reasons he had been putting things off:

“I don’t have enough money.”

“I don’t have time.”

“I don’t know where to start.”

“What if I fail?”

As he looked at his list, something clicked... these weren’t real obstacles. They were excuses disguised as reasons.

The truth? If he kept waiting for the perfect time, it would never come. If he waited until he had all the answers, he’d never start. If he let fear of failure stop him, he’d never grow.

Taking One Small Step

Ben realized he didn’t need to overhaul his entire life in one day. He just needed to start. So, he set one simple goal for the week: Wake up 30 minutes earlier to work on his dreams.

It wasn’t a massive change, but it was something.

On the first morning, he felt tired. On the second, he felt doubtful. But by the end of the week, something surprising happened... he felt motivated. Taking action, even small action, created momentum.

Shifting His Mindset

Ben started paying attention to the way he talked to himself. Every time he caught himself saying, I’ll do it later, he stopped and asked, Why not now?

Instead of: “I don’t have time to work out,” he told himself, “I have 15 minutes... I’ll do what I can.”

Instead of: “I don’t know how to start a business,” he thought, “I’ll research for 10 minutes today.”

He realized that success wasn’t about giant leaps. It was about consistent action, no matter how small.

Making Failure Part of the Process

Fear of failure had held Ben back for years. But as he started taking action, he understood something important... failure wasn’t the opposite of success. It was part of the journey.

He launched a small online business, and at first, it didn’t take off. Instead of quitting, he analyzed what went wrong and adjusted. A few months later, he made his first sale. Then another. And another.

Each failure became a lesson. Each setback, a stepping stone.

Living in the Present

As Ben broke free from the someday mindset, something amazing happened... he started enjoying life more.

He no longer postponed things that made him happy. He planned that dream vacation instead of waiting for “someday.” He reached out to old friends instead of assuming there’d always be time later.

He realized that life wasn’t about waiting for the perfect moment. It was about creating moments now.

One Year Later…

A year after he made that promise to himself, Ben looked back at his progress:

✔ He had started his business, and it was growing.

✔ He was in the best shape of his life.

✔ He had traveled to a place he had always dreamed of.

✔ He felt alive in a way he never had before.

And the best part? He had built a habit of action... one that would stay with him forever.

Ben’s Message to You

If you’ve been telling yourself someday, ask yourself this: What if I started today?

You don’t need to have it all figured out. You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to take one step.

Because one year from now, you’ll either be in the same place, still waiting for someday…

Or you’ll be looking back, amazed at how far you’ve come.

The choice is yours.
