Assumption

A little story of assuming you know what something is about, only to find out - you're wrong.

Do you know how this story is going to end?

Feet curling, nails digging, teeth bared, tight skin, wide eyes and dishevelled hair. Clammy palms and dry knuckles used to wipe every ounce of blood, sweat and tears, that appear to pour out every minute. Muscles tense with every movement, causing pain to shoot through me, resulting in a spasm like that of a fish being electrocuted. I gaze up to face my abuser of my suffering, knowing they're very well thinking, "Your time is up, say goodbye". Yet though, as I receive another wound, I reach the peak, and shout finally..

"Ha! Mount Everest, today is not your day, my friend!".

So how did you get on? Did you envision it might end up this way? Because the way I see it, it makes you think of something far worse than someone struggling to climb up a mountain. This, of course, was my aim. To get the reader to think it might be about someone being tortured/abused/punished.. only to find out it isn't about that at all. This is what I know most, if not all, people do. Make assumptions about what something is about before they'd heard/read every detail. Of course, in this scenario, it's fine. But sometimes, especially when it comes to people, assuming something without knowing everything can have some bad consequences.

This is a story I actually wrote about four or five years ago. So I was about 17/18 at the time. It was something that came to mind whilst just going about my normal day - I think it stemmed from reading something similar earlier that day. I’m glad I saved it. I decided to in case I wanted to add more to it, and it was also one of the few first tries at writing a story - at least, out of school. I know I had tried to write stories a few times before, and maybe have when I was much younger than the age I was when I wrote this. But I knew that this was a big improvement on any of those I wrote before this one.

So yes, it isn’t a recent piece of writing of mine, but I thought it was good enough that it was worth sharing on here. And I also believe, looking back at my old writings helps me to think up new ones - especially as I’ve just recently got back into it - so hopefully, I’ll be writing more and more as the days/weeks go by.

It is very short, as you can see, so I hope my writing makes up for it! And I hope those who have read this and any others of my writings, so far, have thoroughly enjoyed them. And I vow to try and continue to make them enjoyable for you! I welcome feedback so feel free to comment your thoughts.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated, but even taking the time to read any of my stories/poems is enough. You are welcome to share this story, (or others of mine), on social accounts if you so desire.

If you’ve come this far, I thank you. Being that it was a short story, I had to make up for it by jabbering on in order to publish it - as I’m sure those who have an account on here very well know, no less that 600 words! It’s a bit annoying but if it gets the story published then we have to deal with it, haha! And if my story made you think about trying not to assume so much in future, then I'm glad. But if not, that's fine, as that was never my intention.

Thanks again :)
