A Walk In My Mind.

A story about how a walk in my neighborhood helps me cope with life.

By Cortnie SteelePublished 5 years ago 2 min read

As I start to slowly wake up. To the loud chirping sounds of the birds outside my window. As Mother Nature is waking up the world. I stretch real big like a little kid. I roll over, and kiss my husbands cheek. He then just smiles. So I kiss his soft warm lips. I jump out of bed. Humming my favorite songs as I’m getting ready for the day. I go make a cup of coffee. Then proceed to my bedroom. I look at my self in the mirror as I’m sipping the warm coffee. I just stand there and look thinking, feeling. Sometimes life feels heavy.

Then I proceed to walk out my front door. I take a deep breath of that crisp cold southern fall air. “Good morning Mrs. Robison!” My neighbor shouts. “Good morning! Beautiful day isn’t it?”I shouted back. “It sure is!” She agreed. I head down my driveway, and start walking down my street. I love to look at all the houses. Each of them are different. I love to wave, and see all the different families, and people. It reminds me that all of us are unique in our own ways. As I walk by them I love to think about what their lives must be like. Not out of jealousy, but out of curiosity.

Also I love to look at all the naked trees. To look at all the colorful endless pile of leaves on the ground. I love breathing in the cold air. As it fills up my lungs. Watching the clouds go by. To some people it may just be nature. Although if we just truly stop, and look. You can see that beauty is truly all around us. It reminds me that the smallest things can really make you feel amazing things.

All of these things remind me that whatever I may be going through in life that I can get through it. It makes me feel free, and alive. Sometime life gets overwhelming, and work gets stressful. So much that we sometimes forget about ourselves. Sometimes we just need to stop and look at things differently.

When I’d get sad, stressed, or upset when I was a little girl. My grandfather would tell me. “We like to think we know who we are going to be, what we are going to do, and what our lives may be like. Like a story out of a storybook. Although little do we know things are going to happen. People will change. Some may even leave. Plans don’t always work out. It’s the game called life my dear. You see we are all out here trying to write our stories the best we can.”

Going on those walks remind me that we all struggle. We may all have different stories, but we can relate in many ways. That’s the beauty of humanity, and the beauty of life. I love looking back on the struggles in my life that I carry with me everyday, and I’m so happy I never gave up. It does truly get better. It won’t always be perfect, but it can be better. Thats what matters. That’s what life’s all about. Those walks show me these things, and fulfills my mind with greatness, and peace.
