The new Sara in 2022

Sara sat down to write out her New Years Resolution’s. Not one but a whole list. For many years she has listened to other people’s New Years resolutions. She has never taken it seriously. However, this summer her class of 1972 is having a fifty year all class reunion. Now, if there was any time to get serious about a new year’s resolution wouldn’t it be this year?

Lots and lots of people will plan to lose weight. Some will want to start an exercise plan. Still others will want to fix problem areas, like getting out of debt. Sara does not even know what she would want to do for this event. Maybe it is just plan to go? She has not been to other reunions, even though she has always been invited. She will continue to follow the class on Facebook and a handful of classmates on her friends list. Sara has no burning desire to impress classmates. Some she would enjoy seeing and others she could care less. And isn’t that the truth for everyone?

At this age, it is kind of a nice thing to greet each other cordially as no one will be getting together after this event that have not already been getting together before the event. She may find she has some things in common with some of her classmates, but she really is not expecting that and will not be looking for that. Some people really do make it sound like it will be an exciting and fun time for all. I have never thought it will be fun and exciting for all. I am still not sure I have a reason to attend.

So that is where this new year’s resolution thing comes in for Sara. Can she do this for that event? Just attend or do it up big, like a whole list of things specific to the event. Is she just pretending and wanting to lose weight and exercise and needing a reason to get rolling right now? Well, maybe. I am not sure that this event is really what this list thing is all about for Sara. Maybe, she will finish her book as a resolution for this year. She did write that on her list too. She has started to edit, and she has added a few more stories to the book. Sara then thinks she is on it and probably will not need a resolution to finish the book, but maybe being a published author will be what it takes to go to the event. She may even sell a book or two.

Sara was just thinking over the holiday how she does have a terrible time losing weight. She just does not want to go hungry or exercise as much as she may need to for dropping weight. She does not mind exercise if she doesn’t sweat. As she thought this it all made her laugh. I guess maybe she is not serious enough about new years resolutions and that is why she has not taken them seriously in the past.

Then the thought, do they even work? Would people make them every year if they did not have some success? One study showed that more than three quarters of the resolutions fail! That means that almost one quarter doesn’t. Are the odds good enough for Sara? Maybe the odds are good enough! And for those resolutions that fail, isn’t a part of them successful? Like, maybe not losing 50 pounds but losing 25 or not gaining any weight? Sara then thinks, I will stick to my list and maybe something on their will be successful and just maybe it will be the new Sara in 2022!
