20 Quotes To Help Us Exercise Patience In Achieving Our Goals
- David Stidston

Over the past few decades, as a whole, humankind has sadly become more and more impatient. As much as the world continues to evolve off the back of technological advancements, and unfortunately also a desperate hunger for profits, it has led us into a far more fast paced, stressful, and demanding breed of lifestyle. With the constant deadlines to meet, and commitments to honor, time has never been so valuable as it is now. As we find ourselves struggling to balance our work with our home life, every minute has become like gold dust. Because of that build up of stress and pressure of meeting our obligations, the last thing we want to deal with is having to wait for something. That ongoing stress and pressure leads us to anxiety and frustration, and unfortunately, we often take it out on others. If we have to wait in line at the shops, at a bank, at an eatery, at a petrol station, at traffic lights, wherever it may be, if we lose precious minutes waiting for something in which we set the expectations of not having to wait, we get cranky. As I said, unfortunately it's those who are serving, or even other customers, who will quite often cop the release of our frustration. We have sadly grown to become more and more impatient, and again, that stems from the expectations we set.
Technology has advanced in many areas, and one aspect in which many companies love to target their customers, in order to drive the sales of their products or services, is that of convenience. If they use the technology available to them wisely, or even introduce a new technology of their own, they will market their products and/or services around saving people time, and making certain processes easier and more efficient. It makes sense, right? As much as many people don't like change, if they are shown something that offers them benefit, that can save them time, and is really simple to use or do, most people will embrace it. It's a win for the customers, but of course, it's also a win for the various companies, as they start to roll in the profits. It really highlights two of humankind's most valuable treasures; time and money. What's most unfortunate is that most people don't use either of these wisely. Most people will spend their money recklessly, and try to live like they're wealthy, when they are actually struggling to get by as it is. Many people fail to invest their funds into their future, especially when it comes to their goals. It's no different when it comes to time either, as many people fail to invest their time into their goals also. It's funny that the first people who will always whinge and complain that they never have enough time or money are those who fail to invest in their goals, and instead spend them on short term satisfaction items and activities. There's no disputing that time is in short supply, and we would love more hours in our day to get some things done for ourselves, but that's never going to become reality, so it then comes back to what our priorities are. What activities and tasks are the most important to us? Where are we going to invest our time? Our goals should be up there in our top 3 priorities in life, right behind our health and our happiness. After all, we only have so much time to achieve what we desire in life, and to find that satisfaction that we long for.
When most of us set ourselves a goal, we also set ourselves expectations, including timeframes. Many of these timeframes aren't even realistic, because success takes time. Especially when we are striving for a life transforming goal, it can often take years, but our impatience has become that bad, that we don't want to wait that long. We want success within a few months, and we expect that to eventuate. When that doesn't come to fruition, most people couldn't be bothered continuing to work so hard, or continuing to overcome challenges, or continuing to have to wait. So what happens? Most people quit. Most people believe that if success isn't manufactured within a few months, maybe a year, or even two years, then the pursuit is a failure. Significant life changing goals don't normally take a few months, or even just a couple of years, to achieve. These goals often come to fruition after around 5 years, even a few more. Yeah, it sucks having to wait, and constantly have to deal with failures and adversities along the way, but we just have to remain patient and keep on working hard. As hard as it may be, we just need to stay focused, determined, perseverant, resilient, and patient. Success takes considerable time, but if we have the right mindset and attitude, we will understand that patience is a part of the process. Let's not forget though, the longer the journey, the more satisfying the reward will be. Here are 20 quotes to help encourage you to exercise more patience in life, especially when it comes to journeying towards your goals.
