Most people don't realize that they have artistic talent they think it's something reserved for the lucky few. But in reality, anyone can learn to paint or draw or build things, and do it well. It doesn't even matter if you weren't born with the natural ability to create beautiful art if you're passionate enough about your work and work hard enough, you'll eventually be able to make a living off of what you love.

Of course, learning an art form can be intimidating it's so different from other forms of work. But if you know where to start, it doesn't have to be that hard. Here are 10 tips for starting a creative career:

1. Understand What Creativity Is

Even if you don't consider yourself artistic at all, chances are that you've experienced creativity in one way or another. Creativity is simply the talent of coming up with new and clever ideas, and everyone has it in them. Even if you don't consider yourself to be an especially creative person, you've still come up with good ideas for things in the past; for example, a friend or family member might have had a problem, and you came up with a simple solution to their issue. That's an example of creativity a clever idea that solved someone's problem.

2. Understand What Talent Is

Talent and creativity are often used as interchangable terms, but they're actually two different things. Talent is a natural ability that can be improved upon through experience and training. For example, a person might have the ability to sing really well their voice has a certain quality that makes it really pleasant to listen to but unless they've practiced and trained for years, they won't be able to sing very well.

Practice, however, will always improve the natural talent you have. That's why it's called talent you have a natural ability to do something, but constant training and practice will help you refine that talent into something more awesome.

3. Get a Job That Requires Creativity

If you want to be an artist and are talented enough to make money doing so, then obviously you'll need to find a job that lets you work on your craft whenever possible. Whether you're a painter or a writer or an actor, you'll need to find a job that lets you do your thing. For example, if you want to be a painter, find an art related job, like working at a gallery or a museum. If you want to be an actor, perhaps work as a waiter and audition for plays whenever the opportunity arises.

4. Start Small and Practice Often

If you want to be a photographer, don't try to be one overnight. Start by taking pictures of your friends and family at events, and then practice on your own time look at other photos, learn about composition and lighting, etc. As you work on your craft over time, you'll become more familiar with it and eventually develop a style that you're known for.

But the most important thing is to just practice something often. If you're a writer and want to be great, write every day. If you want to be a good actor, practice your lines shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Just keep working at it little by little so that you can improve over time.

5. Be Patient

If you want to live the creative life, it will take time before you make money from your craft. It won't happen overnight most people have to work for years in order to get where they want to be as professionals. If you're an actor, you'll probably start with local theater. If you're a writer, you might try to get a fiction story published in a magazine. And if you're an artist, it'll probably take a while before your work starts to be noticed by collectors and critics.

So be patient let setbacks go. Don't expect overnight success that rarely happens, especially for creative people. It will take time, but it'll be worth it.

6. Look to Others for Inspiration

If you want to be a writer, look to some of the other authors who inspire you and study what they do. Read their books, look at their blogs, watch them speak on YouTube whatever you need to do. If you like the way they write, then you can learn from them and use those techniques in your own writing.

The same goes for any other artistic career look to others who inspire you and adopt their techniques as your own. That's how many artists improve their skills.

7. Remember That Money Doesn't Mean Success

Some people think that if you make a lot of money, then you're a successful person. But really, this isn't true. Having a lot of money doesn't mean anything if you don't enjoy what you're doing after all, most rich celebrities are miserable because they do something they hate for eight hours a day.

Money is only important to you if you enjoy what you end up doing. And if it doesn't feel like a good fit for your personality, then perhaps pursuing a career in the arts is not right for you.

8. Keep an Eye on the Industry

The entertainment industry changes fairly frequently with new technology and, of course, new artists as well. Keep an eye on the industry and always be aware of who's getting popular these days they might be worth watching in the future.

For example, there's this new band called the Chainsmokers I wouldn't say that they're particularly original, but they write catchy songs. Some people think they're disposable, but I'm keeping an eye on them to see if their fame lasts over time. Anything could happen.

9. Don't Get Discouraged

The creative industry can be very competitive. If you want to be a musician, you'll have to compete with the top bands in the world including your favorite artists. You might not make it to the top, but that doesn't mean that you should give up.

Perhaps people will consider your band new and exciting, in which case they may watch your videos or give you attention on social media. Maybe they won't but at least if they don't respond, then you can learn from this and try again later. Maybe they won't give you a chance, but that's okay. You can always keep trying to get your band out there through social media, or join a band that has a better chance of getting noticed and make it as a group instead.

10. Be Yourself and Don't Try to be Someone Else

If you become discouraged because people aren't listening to you play your guitar, then you're doing it wrong. You're not a musician you're a person who plays the guitar. Don't try to be someone else just be yourself and do what you love.

Finally

You don't have to make a serious effort in order to be an artist there is no need to spend years learning a specific craft, or even read books about art and music. All it takes is one step the first step that you take.

Just do something to express yourself, because when you do that, you'll discover your passion for life. That might just end up being music or writing whatever it is, just keep practicing and keep doing something.
