10 Quotes To Remind Us Of Our Obligation To Help Others
- David Stidston

Have you ever been through an extremely tough time in your life, one that you perhaps suffered severe financial hardship, or you were maybe overwhelmed with sorrow, or you were maybe struggling with a relationship/marriage breakdown, or you perhaps lost your job, or whatever the situation was, but you really just needed help and support desperately? If you answered no to that question, I think you would have to be kidding yourself. At some, in fact many times in our life, we are confronted with situations and circumstances that totally crush and devastate us, and we would so desperately love someone to reach out a helping hand, show us they care, and be there to support us and help guide us through such tough times. Sadly, many of us haven't had that blessing of receiving help and support when we needed it most, and we had to navigate through it on our own. People may have abandoned us, and left us to our own devices, and although it ultimately made us stronger, that knowledge of how people turned their backs on helping us, still undoubtedly stings us greatly. It perhaps gave us some true perspective, and helped us realize the importance of helping others, prompting us to promise ourselves never to treat people in the same manner, in their time of need. As much as we choose to deny it, we all need help and support at various stages in life, even just to encourage us and provide us with some mental and emotional motivation, just enough to give us an injection of positivity and hope for the future.
We live in a world where those who are in need of help and support the most, are suffering in silence, because they neither want to be a burden on others, nor feel the embarrassment and shame of having to ask for help. It's why we are always told to treat others courteously, kindly, politely, and with great respect, because we don't know what they are really dealing with mentally, or behind the scenes. We also sadly live in a world riddled with selfishness and greed, as a great majority of people only look out for their best interest, and seek out what's in it for themselves. They don't care who they hurt or affect as long as they get their own way in life, and even better, if they benefit financially from it. People are too wrapped up in their own daily life and problems to even care about others, and the worst part to this fact is, many times it's our own family and friends. Perhaps you are even one of these type people, who live purely for themselves? A common pattern with those who are selfish, greedy, who are always chasing money, and who steer away from helping others, is they, more often than not, end up living very unsatisfying, unfulfilling, and unhappy lives. Because they are always chasing more and more for themselves, they are never satisfied. Those who are the happiest, most satisfied, most fulfilled, and often most successful, people in the world are those who regularly help, support, and give, to others. It's a proven fact! Clearly it's life's way of rewarding and blessing those who have a kind, generous, and giving heart, because life knows they deserve it.
Why are so many of us so foolish to believe that selfishness and greed is the ticket to success and satisfaction? There are times where we know that we desperately need help, support, encouragement, and inspiration, so why don't we comprehend that other people need these exact same things from us? Sometimes, it may only just take the littlest of acts that ends up bringing so much joy, happiness, encouragement, and help, to someone. Helping others isn't just about donating to charity, or giving to those in need who were affected by a natural disaster, it's about spontaneity. It's about giving that homeless person in the street a hundred dollars perhaps. It's about messaging a friend randomly to tell them how grateful we are for them, that we are here for them, that we love them, and that we are thinking about them. It's about identifying a stranger on social media, who is striving hard for their goals, and offering them support, encouragement, and belief. It's about heading next door to an elderly neighbor's, and offering to do their lawns, prepare a meal for them, or help out in some other manner. It's about being proactive in helping a friend or family member, who we know are struggling financially, a few hundred dollars to assist them in their time of need.
Money can be such an evil commodity, but it can also be used to do such great things in this world. We are so possessed by it, and so scared to part ways with some of our savings and investments, yet we have the power to use it to change lives. It's not about giving everything we have away to others, but it's about being prepared to dedicate a percentage of what we have to be helping others. Such acts often come back around in even bigger ways, however it's not for this reason we should seek to help others. We need to be kind, generous, supportive, compassionate, and caring, so we can uplift others along with ourselves. That's the true human spirit, and it's what more of us need to be about. Generosity, help, support, and the like, aren't about pleasing others though. We don't want to get in the habit of making decisions, and executing actions, that are based on what others want, because we shouldn't ever be sacrificing our goals or our happiness to satisfy others. We don't want to be a convenience for others, or become used by them. It's about going out of our way to help and support others wherever we can, whether that be via means of time, money, or both. It's about giving without the expectation of getting anything in return. We all have an obligation to help our fellow man and woman, whether we believe that to be true or not. The world would be a much better place if we put away our selfishness and greed, and focused on ways in which we can serve others, add benefit to their life and future, help others, support others, encourage others, and are there for them in times of need. It could even be as simple as volunteering at a local club or association, whatever contributes to the community. Today, here are 10 quotes to help us turn away from our greedy and selfish ways, and instead be encouraged to dedicate our life to helping others.
