Observations And Thoughts On Marriage

These Are My Personal Observations on Marriage

By Mike Singleton 💜 Mikeydred Published 3 years ago Updated 2 years ago 3 min read

Introduction

In the post at the end of this, I initially thought I had covered every Vocal Community with my writing but there were six that I had not touched, so I thought it would be a challenge to, so to speak, complete the set. The music is "I Married Myself" by SParks from the wonderful "Li'l Beethoven" album.

After this in the Vocal Marriage Community, I will have two more to do, but as these areas have not caught my attention before there may only be one story from me in each of these communities.

There are three that I have not graced with my presence so far are:

  • Blush
  • Chain
  • Marriage*

The Marriage Mission Statement is as follows:

Marriage is all about weddings, from venues to hairstyles, cakes, and the reception.

I am not sure what I will write here but have seen a lot of successful, beautiful weddings and I intend this to be very positive.

My Marriage

Was not perfect but I have two absolutely wonderful daughters. Juliet is single but incredibly happy and successful and loves her many cats. She is also an accomplished cook, in my opinion, Masterchef quality.

Kirsty is the same but married to Mark and they have a wonderful daughter Alexis Leia (yes they are Star Wars fans but more of that later).

If I had not got married I would not have these wonderful friends in my life and I would not give them up for anything. This is what marriage gave me and I will be grateful for these gifts until the end of my life.

The thing is in life we often make what we think are wrong decisions and they bring us to where we are now. Often we think we could have taken different paths and if we had we would not be where we are now. Would we be in a better place if we had chosen different paths? The past is the past and we should always look to learning lessons and making a better future.

Kirsty and Mark

Kirsty, Mark and Alexis Leia

This is a family marriage that I am proud of. From Kirsty and Mark’s rented flat to where they live now, their love of Star Wars, their wonderful daughter, Mark's expertise in so many things and our mutual enjoyment of vinyl music, though Mark is far more perfectionist than me but he has great taste in music.

The Star Wars Lego Wedding Cake

The way they are bringing up Alexis is as close to perfect as you can get and Juliet is an amazing aunt to Alexis too.

Their marriage is exemplary and you can see their wedding cake is amazing and they look great, finally married six years back.

The wedding was at South Causey Inn and below is a video I made of the scarecrows there on the day.

Some Alternate Observations On Marriage

I don’t know if this is the same today but up to the 1970s you were just expected to get married and love didn’t necessarily come into it. You were pressured by parents, family and peers. If women weren’t married they were told they would be left on the shelf and become an old maid. They were also expected to produce children and run the house and maybe even hold down a job. There wasn’t the same pressure on men but there was still pressure.

Two people can love each other and not be married, but if a family is planned the marriage will give a little more security to the family as a whole.

Concluding Marriage

I’ve heard it said that "Marriage is a fine institution, but who wants to live in an institution?" I think that may have been Groucho Marx.

This is the story that inspired this.

This is beautiful! Your daughter and her husband look so happy - and your daughter has your smile, which is so cool and lovely to see. What an awesome piece. Thank you for sharing this, Mike!!

I can only share what not to do in a marriage 😆 up until recently, I've not seen any positive examples of marriage. But when my mother remarried, that changed. And I have 3 female friends who have wonderful marriages. It doesn't make me what to get married again, but I love seeing something that is in such contrast to my negative experiences. Thank you for sharing :)

Love it . I also the pictures. As we get older you pounder and have more understanding about life. It’s really simple but we make it complex by allowing other thoughts dictate how it should be. We are really the captain of our life

  • Brilliant piece although I was expecting something negative, lol! Sorry, please excuse my dark and cynical side. So happy for Kirsty, Mark and Alexis. Everyone deserves so have a happy marriages and family. Also, being single should be normalised and not shunned!
