You, Me, and Reiki Energy: A Moving Mindful Walk
Mindful Strides Challenge

We are living through a vastly changing moment in time. Things are shifting and we feel confused, overwhelmed, unsure. This sensation of change can create fear but it can also inspire us to try things on in new ways (rather, new to us). Walking meditations are nothing NEW, per say, but with the way we operate changing swiftly, this might be just the thing you need to obtain a shift your perspective.
Before you set out on foot, I would like to say: Hello, and to thank you for coming along on this mindful walk with me.
To begin the walk, I would like to invoke Reiki energy into our session. Reiki is universal love and energy. It is all around us waiting to be tapped into so that we can move into a greater state of balance physically, mentally, and emotionally. When we are able to cultivate balance in such a way, then we come into a more full awareness of our experience.

Please take a moment to pause wherever you are. At the end of your driveway, on a street corner, in the park, or down a natural path...take a second to pause and call on this energy with me. If it feels comfortable and safe in this moment, invite yourself to close your eyes as we beckon the Reiki energy to channel into this experience with us.
Let your arms hang by your side, slightly away from you with palms face forward. Direct your energtic focus into the palms of your hands and allow a color of light to come into your mind and direct that color into the plane of your palms.
I will now call on the Reiki energy. Feel free to simply listen or repeat the call in your mind space after I vocalize it outloud.
Calling on the Reiki Masters. [Pause]
Doctour Usui. [Pause]
Doctor Hayashi. [Pause]
Madame Takata. [Pause]
All beings of healing, love, and light. [Pause]
Let the Reiki flow. [Pause]
Let the Reiki flow. [Pause]
Let the Reiki flow. [Pause]
[Quiet moment]
Take a breath in, flutter your eyes open.
Take a breath out, and observe the environment around you.

Begin walking in the direction of the path, toward your destination, or the way the your feet and your heart guide you.
As you start your walk know that the natural movement of the body will begin to increase your heart rate and your breath. During your walk today keep your attention focused around observing your breath and harnessing it to flow in a steady rhythmic manner.
Take a deep inhale through your nose.
Open mouth exhale.
Again, take a deep breath in through your nose.
Sigh it out fully.
As you continue the walk, you can choose to stay with this vocalized breathing. If at any point you feel that you need a little more stimulation in the breath practice, you can switch to a closed mouth exhale which will allow for a steady heat to build in the body.
The inhale and exhale through the nose will provide you more of an ability to burn through stagnation in the system.
The inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth will allow you extra release if the build up within is overwhelming in any way.

Remaining connected to the breath, begin to observe the terrain upon which your feet land. Are you on uneven footing? Is the road smooth and stable? What about the texture? Is there soft and and silt beneath your tread? Or the hard crunch of shifting gravel?
Let the earth speak to you through the texture that falls beneath the steady pound of your feet as you step along your path.
[Quiet pause]

Now as you walk along, start to detect sensation. How do your limbs feel? Achey? Fluid? Spry? Does the body proceed along effortlessly? Or is there a list to your stride? Do you succumb to the pressure of gravity as though you are moving through mud?
[Quiet pause]

Continuing your movement, begin to absorb the environment around you. Do you detect scent upon the air? Does your skin feel the prickle of atmosphere, or thickness of moisture, or the tingle of dryness? And what about your “sense” factor? With your awareness, can you feel the precense of a creatures nearby? How about human aura? Are you alone, or is there someone in close proximity? Do you see/feel/smell/hear the beings that intersect your path or are you afloat in aloneness and isolation?
[Quiet pause]

Now begin, to shift your focus to the sensation of hearing. Bring about 80% of your mind focus to the sense of hearing. Allow yourself to acknowledge all sounds. Sounds that are close to you. Sounds that are far away. Sounds that fall somewhere in between. As your senses pick up on these sounds, do your best not to tell a story about them in your mindscape.
A car door slams? Hear the sound, shift back to the sense of hearing. No story, no rabbit hole.
A bird takes flight near you? Hear the sound, shift back the sense of hearing. No story, no rabbit hole.
A voice floats toward you across the void? Hear the sound, shift back to the sense of hearing. No story, no rabbit hole.
Observe. Realign.
Observe. Realign.
Observe. Realign.
[Quiet pause]
Now walk slowly, methodically, breath stays calm, and keep yourself and mind quiet. Walk with purpose.
[Very long quiet pause]

Wherever you are pause your feet at this exact moment and come into stillness. Make sure are safe and not in the path of danger from a car, a person, or a bicylist going by. Do your best to stop immediately and without story.
Use all your senses to take in your surroundings. Move slowly in a 360 degree circle. Notice feeling. Notice sensation. Notice sight. Notice hearing. Allow yourself to receive that which you would normally bypass.
If you have walked in this area before? If so, what are you noticing for the first time?
If this is new and unfamiliar terrain, what are you taking in that you would normally be oblivious to?
Whatever you have picked up on allow yourself to pin your gaze on this for as long as you can without blinking. Once you blink shift your focus to something new. Once again stare at this as long as you can without blinking.
Now blink rapidly to clear your vision.
At this point continue walking and we will shift to a numerical breath to allow for expansion of awarness.
Inhale...1...2...3
Hold...1...2...3...4...5...6
Exhale...1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9
Inhale...1...2...3
Hold...1...2...3...4...5...6
Exhale...1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9
Inhale...1...2...3

Inhale...1...2...3
Hold...1...2...3...4...5...6
Exhale...1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9
Let your breath flow naturally now. No need to force, control, or stiffle. Let yourself sense the life force flowing through you and around you.
Bring yourself back to your color of energy from the beginning of our walk. As you walk now imagine your body filling up with this colored light and when you are completely full, imagine the color radiating out of you to expand into your auric field. Your auric field is a space about 1-6 inches from your physical body. Notice that you are infinite and connected to the environment around you and the energy of light within you.
Wherever you are in your walk pause again. Sweep your palms methodically over your body starting inward and moving out toward the end of your limbs. Imagine that your palms are magnetically pulling out any toxins hiding in the system. Toxic thoughts, toxic trauma built up, toxic scar tissue, and and all things that keep you oblivious to the many miracles around you. Flick this matter away from the body as you get to the end of your limbs. Watch yourself dispel the physical, mental, and emotional body of toxicity.

When you are done bring one hand to your heart and the other hand ontop of that hand. Take this moment to thank yourself for doing this work and to also thank the Reiki energy for nourishing you.
Take a deep breath in.
Fully let go as you exhale.
Finish your walk with this gratitude, energy, and focused awareness. Marvel at all the tiny miracles in the vicinity of your being.
