Why is the Fifth Chakra so Important?
The Throat Chakra, Communication, and Self Expression

The fifth chakra, or throat chakra, is located at the throat and is associated with the color blue, usually a light blue hue. This chakra is commonly associated with our person strengths and weaknesses with communication and self-expression. It fosters our ability to be expressive with our thoughts and feelings in the world. Your throat chakra helps you gain insight into how to communicate properly and how to resolve conflicts. Your self-expression is of the utmost importance here.
If you have strengths in this chakra, you are typically a confident person who is active and enjoys self-expression, possibly through creative processes such as art, music, or other endeavors. Those who have trouble speaking their mind or communicating clearly with others probably have a blockage in their throat chakra that is preventing them from fully utilizing their unique forms of expression and communication skills. That is why it is important to make sure you have a good balance in all of your chakras, but in terms of that expression, the focus for healing would be at the throat.
Having a strong throat chakra can give you many advantages in the business world and beyond, so knowing how to keep this aspect of yourself strong and healthy could help you in future endeavors such as job interviews and important presentations. Additionally, working on strengthening this chakra will also help you build good social skills and strong relationships with friends, family, and romantic partners.
Because the throat chakra is associated with communication, that means that when we are focused on this area of the body, we are most concerned with our speaking and listening skills. The sound of our voices resonates in our throat, and we feel that energy in our throat and chest literally when we are speaking. It's that non-tangible feeling of presence when someone starts talking. Your "stage presence" as a person, in some ways. Knowing yourself, your capabilities, and how to solve problems are all strengths that can come from a strong energy in the throat chakra.
If you are going through a tough situation with a friend or family member, consider using the throat chakra to help you utilize conflict-resolution strategies to deal with your problems. World leaders can benefit from strengthening their throat chakras to deal with issues of diplomacy and international relations, as leadership is another skill mastered with strong social and communication skills.
If you have an imbalance in your throat chakra, it is more than likely that you might be having trouble communicating something or you are keeping something "bottled up" inside. This blockage can impact your relationships with others greatly, as well as how you function in your job and your day to day life. This is why it is important to make sure that you are ALWAYS working on your communication and self-expression skills. A weakness in the throat chakra indicates a person that might be shy, soft-spoken, or fearful of public speaking. Those with a strong throat chakra energy are more charismatic, well-versed, and confident in their abilities. There is always room for everyone to grow in this area, so it is a really great chakra to focus on if you are working on personal development.
Balancing Your Throat Chakra:
Find a peaceful place to meditate and use a chakra card or visual to focus your energy on as you meditate. You may also want to consult a guided meditation audio clip to help you through your meditation. If you are looking to stimulate and strengthen the throat chakra, you may also want to chose to have blue crystals around you while you meditate. Consider using crystals such as sodalite or lapis lazuli, as these stones are strongly associated with communication.
Wearing a blue stone around your neck and close to your throat chakra has been said to help you with this area of your life, although of course, there is no scientific backing to that, it is still a fascinating thing to consider. The human mind also has the ability to take things, even if they seem more abstract, and make them feel real, just by believing in them. When we believe in the energy and inner light that we all possess, that light blue ball of light coming from our throat chakra and rising up within us, we can speak. We become brave, we start to feel more confident. Ponder on these ideas as you meditate on your throat chakra.
If your throat chakra is balanced you will benefit in your professional areas. When your boss asks you to complete that presentation or something, you will overall feel more confident in your abilities. In terms of personal life, your relationships with family and friends will benefit you because you will also be more aware of your needs, expectations, and boundaries in your relationships.
The throat chakra also seeks to strengthen your sense of self-expression, so you might find yourself seeking new ways to express yourself. Consider taking up a hobby such as painting, drawing, music, or even public speaking. This, in combination with meditation, will help to bring out your best qualities and use your throat chakra energy in a positive way. The reason I talk about these is because I believe the concept of chakra healing is something invaluable to humanity. It forces us to believe in ourselves, and to always be working on and improving that beautiful inner light within us all, so use your imagination to help find that spark of creativity, the expressiveness within you, and make the most of your fifth chakra!
