Why I Want to Become a Certified Diabetes Educator

A Research Scientist Whose Title Will Still Be Doctor

By Iria Vasquez-PaezPublished 8 years ago 3 min read

I want to study to be a diabetes educator because I want to help other people beat the apathy they sometimes have to take care of their diabetes. Sometimes it just happens. Not everybody is as motivated as I am to take care of his or her diabetes. This is why I tell myself I want to study diabetes education for both type-1 and type-2 diabetes. Many people are nowhere near as motivated as I am to take care of themselves. Obviously, my medication is a huge part of my treatment because I feel good daily instead of as terrible as I felt in high school and up until my 20s.

I want to become a research scientist who designs new medications with fewer side effects. If there were better medications out there, many of us who need medication would be less terrified to take them. I’m supposed to pay for my education myself. Every last red cent of my education, that is, since nobody in my family is going to help me. No friends either. I have absolutely no help. How can I even begin to raise money with those conditions?

I have decided I want to study endocrinology so I can unlock new treatments for diabetes. Remember, I infuse these days. Having an insulin pump is an amazing way to treat type 1-diabetes. I’m good to go. The DMV looks at it as a good thing. I got a five year renewal without a problem. I will have to go to the DMV in 2021. The time will pass quickly if I find enough money can be earned for me to go back to school. I want to become a psychiatrist, neurologist, endocrinologist, and geneticist. I want to help people with similar health problems to myself.

Also, fringe groups like psychics don’t always go for meds since their community is about maintaining a pure body and mind. They view medication use as impure. In fact, they give me issues when I even dare say I have schizophrenia. I was never sent to a neurologist. A long time ago, back in my college days, I had people assuming I was on the autism spectrum not knowing I was schizophrenic that is. You see, I took a test at Community Healthy Awareness Council which proves that I do not need to worry about being on the autism spectrum as I am NOT ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM AND NEVER WAS.

This was a misinforming thing on the part of the Ferengi. You see, they didn’t know how to even use the term people with autism use to describe themselves, which is, “on the autism spectrum.” This is why TV shows like The Big Bang Theory are controversial, because they portray people on the autism spectrum. This offends people with real autism because they might be misconstruing the symptoms on the show. Cultural appropriation can happen for many reasons, in many situations. I want to help people get on meds and stay on meds by witnessing my success taking my medication daily. I set the bar really high with that because I really can’t skip doses without having serious setbacks. Skipping my meds is quite dangerous. If all my patients can be that type of person, then I’m sure I will have few people to fire. Your psychiatrist can fire you if you are not medication consistent. This why I make sure that I pick one I will not have to dump for disrespect. Does anybody have any idea what having an untreated mental illness is like? Probably not. Those of you with charmed lives don’t get how you watch yourself behave from a deep corner of your brain, hating every minute of it when you are getting bullied or receiving bad feedback from messing something up socially or having bipolar moods swings on top of delusions. Thank God I know all my triggers now. I want to study genetics to help other people with genetic disabilities. Of course, I have to pay for my education myself so please try to donate to my funds here. Thanks.
