What If You Only Drank Soda?
The Daily Soda Habit: How Sugary Drinks Affect Your Health and Longevity

Almost half of Americans (48%) consume at least one glass of soda or pop every day, and with over 1.8 billion Coca-Cola bottles sold daily, it's safe to say that many of us enjoy sweet beverages. But if we simply drank soda, what would happen to our bodies and minds?
The drink's strong acid content starts to break down the enamel on your teeth as soon as it gets in your mouth, and the sugar starts to be consumed by the bacteria in your plaque, which can cause cavities. If you finish the can, you can have taken in up to 46 grams of sugar.
Your tongue's receptors pick up on this and communicate with your cerebral cortex, triggering your brain's reward center and making you want more. If you were to drink cola instead of the necessary eight glasses of water every day for a week, you would have ingested around 5432 more calories. And weight gain is one of the main health issues associated with fizzy drinks.
Soft drinks have been estimated to be responsible for half of the weight gain that occurred in the US between 1977 and 2007. Furthermore, our systems do not metabolize high fructose corn syrup, the main sweetener in sodas, in the same manner as other sugars. They don't activate the insulin and leptin hormones, which raises the risk of cardiovascular disease, and they increase liver fat. In order to stop overeating, these hormones assist the body in signaling when we are full. Diabetes risk is also elevated by insulin disturbance. According to studies, cutting back on drink sugar may be able to stop one million obesity instances.
Should we therefore switch to diet beverages?
Interestingly, there is still a connection between using artificial sweeteners and gaining weight.
Research has shown that sweetness, whether from real sugar or artificial sweeteners, increases our hunger. Not to add, a lot of people who drink diet soda assume they have already cut back on calories, so they feel okay eating more. They reason like way: "I'm drinking a diet soda so I can have a large fry with my burger."
However, sodas can also make us older. Our chromosomes finish with protective coverings called telomeres that get shorter with age. And it turns out that their rate of shortening is about the same in smokers and those who consume 600ml of soda daily.
What would happen if you consumed two liters of soda each day? One woman, who was 31 years old when she was admitted to the hospital, did precisely that for 16 years in a row. Despite having no family history of cardiac issues, she had arrhythmia and episodes of fainting. Tests revealed that she was significantly potassium deficient since sugar and caffeine may both cause potassium to be lost through urine and diarrhea. Fortunately, our bodies heal amazingly well, and once she stopped, her potassium levels and other issues started to improve.
