Our body is a temple and what we put into our temple ultimately determines our quality of life. But, this isn't just true when it comes to the food we eat but also what we feed our minds and spirit and that's what this piece represents. On one end we have the daily toxins we absorb through processed foods, unsafe prescription drugs, and social media. These are the things that break our mind, body, and spirit down over time the more we indulge in them which eventually dim our lives. And the freighting part is we aren’t always aware of what seems bad at first. Prescription drugs in moderation can help us feel better, social media in moderation can help us keep in contact with family and friends but even simple things like this can become toxic if we over indulge and aren’t mindful on how they can impact our lives.
The same is true for the opposite side of the spectrum. Healthy relationships, natural food, staying active can all improve our mind, body, and soul if they become a part of our habits. These are things that we invite in our life by simply being mindful of them. When we take time out of our busy schedule to visit family or catch up with friends these things improve our social relationships that we pour in our life. Eating healthy super natural foods can help improve our health that not only makes us feel better but helps us look better. All of these things help strengthen and improve our quality of life that creates a bright aura in our life.
When it comes to good and bad experiences, our body naturally reacts to both. When we feel depressed, upset or stressed our body releases toxins that can actually attack our immune system and make us sick. And when we do things that are exciting that makes us happy our body releases endorphins that give us that feeling of satisfaction. So what we feed our body mentally is just as important as what we feed our body physically.
When it comes to things that we put in our body it's easy to monitor and feel the impact. If you want to know if you're gaining weight you can just step on a scale, if you are feeling the symptoms of a cold coming along you can take medicine to combat it. But, when it comes to the toxins that are unseen, these challenges can be more difficult to recognize and therefore fight. Issues like family drama, financial stress, and fear of intimacy are battles that can sneak on us which creates internal conflicts. Having the level of self-awareness that creates an imperfect balance is something we all should strive for.
Every day we can strive to be perfect but deep down inside we know that’s impossible and that’s OK. The goal shouldn’t be to aim for perfection but instead, the goal should be to aim for mindfulness. Once we get to a level of mindfulness we can also get to a level of self-awareness and that's how we protect ourselves from the toxins. My art piece is a visualization on how these toxins affect our mind body and soul on every level. With so much attention on what we are feeding our bodies, we also must be aware of what we are feeding our minds and exposing our souls to which is equally important.
