Inspirational and healthy ways to lose weight.
Body Image
What is your first memory of yourself? Let's go back in time for a moment, to the first time you remember, for whatever reason, disliking something about your body? For me, my very first memory of body image issues began as a preteen after my father abruptly moved our family from saucy Arizona to corn-fed Alabama. In Arizona, most people I knew were thin. I recall very few children who were overweight. Alabama was a culture shock for me. The accents were different, the food was different, and most children my age were healthy looking—not obese—but so much taller and bigger than I was. Unlike myself, most girls here were developing already. I felt invisible.

My Inner Thick Chick Chronicles
Hi, my name is Kendra Cody. I am 30 years old. I have four beautiful children, who I love and a wonderful husband. We've been happily married for seven years. I'm a certified medical assistant, and I've been working in doctors offices for about 10 years. I had to choose, and sacrifice that particular career, to be a stay at home mom, due to one of my daughters medical condition.

"Why Am I Not Losing Weight?"
First of all, if you are not seeing the results you were hoping for at first, DO NOT PANIC! I suggest using both the scale and a measuring tape to see exactly how much progress you're making. Sometimes, even though the scale shows nothing, the tape may reveal that you've made more progress than you could've imagined!

Exercise Challenge (Pt. 10)
During this stretch of days, you will notice that there was almost a week of no exercise. This was due to coming down sick with the cold bug that has been running rampant in my area. For me, it started off with a sore throat, then became a serious case of the chills. I went through a two hour stretch of sweating. This went on for a few days and my throat hurt so bad at times I could barely talk. I lived on chicken noodle soup, ginger ale, jello and pudding as I could not eat anything else. I also had to deal with a very sore mouth, which was strange. I had a distinct lack of strength and energy so, I spent each day in bed resting. As soon as I was feeling better, I began working out again, but had to start slow and build myself back up.

What I Learnt from Losing 12kg of Body Weight in Six Weeks
To give you guys a little bit of perspective, the picture above was me, but about five or 6kg heavier than the final weight I would be. Now this story of weight loss occurred about two and a half years ago and is actually a fairly obscure one. Not because I was a weight-cutting female athlete, or even a combat athlete but because I was a female MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) cage-fighter in England, which is pretty rare. This rarity is actually what lead to the series of events that caused me to lose about 12kg in the space of 6 weeks. Why? Because unsurprisingly, not that many women have the dream of becoming a professional cage fighter. Shocker.

Exercise Challenge (Pt. 9)
Instead of posting a weeks worth of daily updates, I stretched it out a little bit this time by doing 15 days worth. My exercises have become pretty consistent, however, I will be trying to switch them up in the very near future. With that being said, here are the next 15 days worth of exercises...

Exercise Challenge (Pt. 8)
Another week of exercise has come and gone and other than frequently suffering from shortness of breath, I feel great!! There have been a lot of illnesses going around my hometown and I am trying my best not to get sick. For me, eating right, exercising and making sure I get all of my vitamins is what it takes to keep illness at bay. With that said, here are the exercises I did this week.

The Motivation to Lose Weight
Although it hurts, running is one of the best things you can do for your body. An incredible cardiovascular activity can help you lose weight in addition to training several other muscles in your body. After all, you use almost your entire body when you run, so it is only logical that your legs and abdominal muscles receive some training as well. For example, I am trying to turn a six-pack into an eight-pack now, and one of the key exercises I’m doing is running; it helps burn the excess fat that covers the abdominal muscles.

Fixing Your Diet
Why is it that some people who down gallons if ice cream, boxes of pizza, cartons of fries, etc., are rail thin with a xylophone rib cage while other people who eat very little still pack on the pounds? Well, your physiology is not just determined by your behavior (what you eat and how you exercise), it is also determined by your genetics. There are over 400 genes that increase susceptibility to obesity. These genes may affect appetite, sense of hunger satiation, metabolism, food cravings, body-fat distribution, and the impulse to curb stress with eating. On a very simple level, your weight depends on the number of calories you consume, how many of those calories you store, and how many you burn up. Thus, your weight—and how easily you gain or lose it—is determined by intermingling factors of both behavior and genetics, both of which you must take into account when you are trying to lose weight. If weight loss is difficult for you, try to be kind to yourself. There is probably more going on than lack of willpower.
