Just Breathe
When most people start having headaches, it usually doesn't mean anything is wrong. It's probably just caffeine withdrawal or they need to drink more water. Not in my family. Headaches that can leave you unable to move or speak tend to run in my family.

LGBT Gyms with Anti-Discrimination Policies
Working out at a gym can be an uncomfortable experience, particularly if it doesn’t have any anti-discrimination policies in place. However, you shouldn’t have to bear discomfort during your workout. Below is a small guide to gyms that are LGBT-friendly or that do have anti-discrimination policies in place.

Does Your Dominant Hand Shape Your Workplace Habits?
There are two types of people in this world: right-handed and left-handed people. While you may think that the only difference between these two groups is the dominant hand they write with, there are actually a lot of characteristics that distinguish these groups.

Hearing Loss
I live my life suspended between two worlds, not quite fitting into either. There is the hearing world: a world of noise, of happy conversations and quiet whispers, of blaring horns and twittering bird songs, noises loud and soft, high pitched or deep. Then there is the deaf world: a visual world of images, where communication occurs through your fingers and meaning comes through facial expressions, a quiet world in some ways but vibrantly alive in others. It is a world I have never been truly part of but have sometimes longed to, knowing that the miscommunication and misunderstandings I often experience in my life in the hearing world would vanish in the deaf world.

Random Act of Kindness
Random Act of Kindness My glucometer broke. It broke the Thursday before my birthday. I knew it wasn’t the battery. I knew I had to replace the whole thing. As soon as I put the test strip in and saw an abnormally high number, I knew I had to check it again. After having breakfast, and taking my medication, an hour later, I checked my glucose again. I got an even higher number the second time. I knew at that point, that my glucometer had broken.

My So-Called Life
I don’t know how I ended up here. I mean, I know physically, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s a huge question. If there’s some grand plan or someone in charge, like playing house with billions of people, then why? I’m 41 and back living with my parents. I have a room across the hall from them where they monitor how late my light is on & I worry that my vibrator will be too loud and they’ll hear. Or I’ll squirt and my mom will think I peed the bed again... how did I end up in this situation? Oh yeah, I got doored by a car while biking. Let’s rewind a whole bunch and I’ll tell you the whole story...

Burning Lungs
This will all seem insignificant, small, to many. There are far greater griefs in the world and in my own life. This is not a grief, though, it is the harbouring of a burden. I know what I am about to say will upset some who are close to me but I no longer wish to lead the llama on to greener pastures. No longer do I wish to be burdened with the beast. It is only thanks to someone incredibly close and special to me that the actuality of my burden was alleviated at all in the first place. We all have our cruxes, our addictions, many of which we are unable to overcome. Mine was small and insignificant and yet even for its short lived naivety, it still weighs on me to this day.

Do Not Let Chronic Illness Define You
I touched on this a couple of weeks ago but I wanted to revisit this topic, as I know many people do struggle with this on a daily basis. I shared with others about the struggles of living with a chronic illness but now I want to encourage others to not let that chronic illness slow you down or let it be a hindrance to their productivity and what they want to achieve in this life. Learning to manage my chronic illness has not been easy but it has been incredibly rewarding as I have found what works for me and flowing with it as I work towards the journey of healing. Knowing your limits is so crucial to this process, so I do recommend that you not overdo yourself—lest you become worse—know your balance.
