Protecting a clean environment is very important for a healthy life, but for some time the rate of environmental pollution is increasing rapidly around the world, as a result of which many kinds of problems are arising. Currently, the biggest problem is smog. Actually, the pollution dissolved in the atmosphere by mixing toxic fumes, dust and polluted water is called smog.

To be clear, the word smog is a combination of the English words smog and fog. There are generally two types of smog, including sulfurous smog and photochemical smog. Sulfurous smog is called London smog and photochemical smog is called Los Angeles smog. The word smog was used for the first time around the world in the 1950s, when Europe and America first faced air pollution due to the industrial revolution.

The problem of smog in our country intensified in 2015, when most of the areas of Lahore and Punjab were engulfed by heavy fog before the onset of winter. Smog in Pakistan in any month from October to January. may appear, while the intensity may last from 10 to 25 days. Smog in Pakistan is a major part of India, there is pollution from burning of crop residues, which comes through the air to Pakistan, especially Lahore. This is the reason why Lahore becomes the most polluted city in the world.

Apart from this, even though the emergency is enforced here, the environment is polluted by the burning of crop residue, fossil fuel, various gases, while the burning of garbage leaves toxic substances in the air, which turn into smog. Immediate relief from smog is possible only with rain. This year, the situation of smog in Punjab has become dangerous, in view of which it has been declared mandatory to wear masks in the affected areas, while as of writing Lahore High Court. It has also ordered to keep all educational institutions closed on Saturdays till the end of January due to smog.

The World Health Organization has declared Lahore as the most polluted city in Asia and has warned the government to take immediate measures in this regard.

It should be noted that smog is extremely harmful to nature, including humans, animals and trees. Due to smog, the risks of developing life-threatening diseases, especially lung or throat diseases, are also increasing. If a city or town is surrounded by smog, So its immediate effects can range from itchy eyes, cough, sore throat or chest, respiratory and skin problems to colds.

Smog increases the severity of attacks in asthma patients. According to a study conducted in the United States, air pollution in the early days of pregnancy is not only harmful to the pregnant woman, but also to the unborn child, so pregnancy The first three months of pregnancy require caution. It is also possible that if the pregnant woman stays in a contaminated area for the first three months, the delivery may be premature.

Since the early period of pregnancy requires special care and attention, it is recommended that the pregnant woman live in an area free from air pollution and in a clean environment (i.e. where there is minimal traffic, smoke and dust). There is no dust), so that it can have beneficial effects on the health of the pregnant woman and the child. The following measures can be taken to be safe from smog.

Water should be used as much as possible.

Avoid going out unnecessarily.

Keep the doors and windows of the house closed.

Use a damp cloth instead of a broom for cleaning.

Use goggles when going out of the house. Also, wash your eyes with clean water during and after travel.

Spray the outside of the house with water.

Do not allow dust to fly in smelly and construction sites.

Use vehicles sparingly and only when necessary.

Protect your surroundings from smoke and smoking.

Cover your mouth with a mask or handkerchief while leaving the house.

Get your vehicle inspected, so that it does not cause air pollution.

Take special care of children and the elderly.

If symptoms are severe, consult a physician.

Eyeglasses are better than contact lenses.

People with various respiratory problems should take special care. If it is necessary to go out in the smog, avoid going to densely populated areas, where there is a possibility of getting stuck in traffic jams, to avoid toxic fumes as a result of being stuck on the road. Keep the car windows closed.

Avoid exercising during smog, especially during the middle of the day, when ground-level ozone levels are highest.

If you suffer from asthma, keep an inhaler with you, if the condition worsens suddenly, consult a doctor.

Avoid smoking.

Use compassionate care that has been used for centuries to stay safe from smog.
