My Witch Journey - What I've Learned Thus Far
No, it's not what you think.

Hi, my name is Morgan and I’m a beginner eclectic witch. I say beginner, but I’ve been practicing for close to 7 years!
But most of those 7 years were spent in the broom closet. I used to hide from all my friends what I used to do after school. But now I embrace who I am and the rituals I perform.
To get right into it, my favorite things to work with are spell jars and abundance rituals.
My first ever spell jar was for abundance. It had tons of green herbs for abundance, a dollar, some coins, and a splash of my moon water in it. Then I sealed it with a green candle- that I completely ruined in the process because Yankee Candles don’t drip as well as chime candles.
And my first ever ritual was an abundance ritual performed with citrine and a bay leaf that I wrote my intentions on. I burned the bay leaf while rubbing the citrine in my other hand, all my whispering my intentions. The very next day after performing that ritual I was hired for a high-paying job that I desperately wanted.
As witches, we create the change we want to see in the world and in ourselves. We are strong, powerful, forces of nature.
Other magical things I indulge in would be my crystals. I absolutely adore crystals. My favorite would be raw rose quartz because of the energy it gives off.
Raw crystals are ideal for energy manipulation in my experience because of the energy they give off. Raw crystals are wonderful for charging yourself, as well. If I ever feel drained after a long day, I’m sure to grab my crystals and hold them until I feel better.
I knew I was different when I was just a young girl. I’d always felt at home in nature by myself, and my parents always called my fantasies my “wild imagination”. Every stick was a wand, every field was a battleground. When I laid down in nature I felt my very soul connect to the roots below.
When you’re a child, your third eye is almost always open. It’s not until we get older that we lose that sight. It’s not until we spend more time letting society mold us that we no longer have a fantastic intuition.
Over the quarantine of 2020, I’ve been working towards opening my third eye again. I’ve been getting in tune with myself and remembering who I am.
Another magical ritual I enjoy would be self-care baths. I line my tub with crystals and candles and fill my tub with herbs and intention- sometimes tea bags, too, for an unearthly glow. Then I get in the bath and breathe deeply while imagining my intentions.
After a self-care bath, I always feel refreshed and recharged. I feel powerful when I take care of myself.
Now, in my witchcraft journey I’ve found a lot of helpful apps; Moonly, Co-star, Moon Calendar, Amino, Facebook, TikTok, Book of Shadows, and Mystic Mondays.
To briefly discuss why each of these apps has helped a ton, I’ll start with Moonly. Moonly is a subscription-based app that contains a horoscope for each day based on your signs, colors of the day, a plethora of rituals, runes and a rune of the day, daily affirmations, and music for meditating or spell work.
Moonly has been one of my favorite apps because the subscription is on the cheaper side and you can subscribe for a trial month at a reduced rate of .99 cents. I highly recommend Moonly to anyone who enjoys rituals and witchy knowledge.
Next, Co-star. While not aimed at witches, it’s particularly helpful to get an idea of the star alignment and the “do’s and don’t’s” of the day. I enjoy using Co-star in my witchcraft to figure out what time is best to do a ritual.
Then we have the app Moon Calendar, which is of course helpful for witches to know the exact phase of the moon. Aside from telling you the phase of the moon and how illuminated it is, Moon Calendar also offers specific tips for what self-care to do during that moon phase along with recipes. This app is very helpful for the witch that likes to treat themselves.
Amino is a social platform that, while not designed with witches in mind, has a very helpful witch network that uses the platform. “The Witches Circle” even has their own spinoff amino app available for download where you can find chat rooms, a digital grimoire, and posts that educate you on anything you’d like to know.
Facebook is another social platform with many witchcraft geared groups to join. These groups are wonderful for beginners and experts alike because it’s a collective of knowledge teaching one another.
TikTok is the last social media I’ll be recommending, simply for the “Witchtok” side of TikTok. While not always accurate, TikTok does have some great creators that put out tarot content and crystal education. But always fact check anything you learn on TikTok as it’s not broken down into each category. Any creator can tag any video as #Witchtok which can be detrimental to beginner witches. An example of this being when Witchtok got together and tried to hex the moon and the Fae. Remember, not all witchcraft is about hexing. Hexing is a very small part of witchcraft and not all enjoy hexing.
Book of Shadows, while possibly self-explanatory, is a digital book that you can put all your spells, rituals, and witchy workings into. And you can categorize your entries for better organization, which I love. This is exactly why I could never have a physical book of shadows, I’m too disorganized and I don’t like my handwriting.
Last but not least, Mystic Mondays. When I used to use it, it was a tarot card of the day. However, today as I’m writing this the app now only says “coming soon” so I would assume it’s being revamped. I’ll write an article to review the app as it’s reformed.
Thank you all for reading, I hope that this article will serve you in the best it can.
If this article is well received, I’ll write more just like this in the future.
Thank you and blessed be.
