Beating Breast Cancer
My husband was the one who discovered the lump in my breast. I didn't think much of it, I was 28 years old, full of life, and breastfeeding my two-year daughter old led me to believe it was just a clogged milk duct. I went to the doctor to get it checked and to my surprise, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. How could this be, I young and healthy, how could this ever happen to me, I thought. My whole world turned upside down, I was terrified and I automatically assumed I was going to die. I didn't know anything about cancer except becoming bald and weak was the norm for some. I was scared of the possibility of doing any treatment, with the fear of it not working. I was a nervous wreck, I prayed, I cried and reached out for any support I could find. Thankfully I was able to find a support group that helped young women like myself with resources to pay for treatment and living expenses.

Beta-Alanine, Caffeine, and Creatine
According to Eudy et al. (2013), “A survey of 207 college athletes indicated that 89 percent were using... preworkout nutritional supplements...” (p. 577). Another study cites that most 11- to 18-year-olds who claimed to be taking preworkout supplements had no knowledge of the potential risks associated with these controversial workout enhancers (Eudy et al., 2013). The use of preworkout supplements originally seemed to be on a steep rise among today’s athletes and gym-goers; for years, infamous Blender Bottles could be found scattered around almost all fitness centers, filled with water and mixed to an array of vibrant hues matching the supplement’s artificial flavors. As preworkout supplements grew more prevalent in the general fitness society, the act of checking the nutrition facts and skeptically yet objectively researching whether a supplement’s ingredients were both safe and efficacious for the user became less common. The proposed benefits used to market preworkout supplements by large companies such as Cellucor and EVLution make it easy to see why these types of nutritional supplements rapidly gained popularity among athletes and fitness gurus, but not all publicity for these supplements has been positive. As general consumer knowledge surrounding these supplements dwindled, many of these then were often linked with unsafe and undesirable effects. As Kendall et al. (2014) have noted, “mainstream media reports have linked creatine and caffeine supplementation with potential renal and hepatic problems as well as dehydration” (p. 443). As various attitudes and beliefs surrounding the risks and results of preworkout supplements regularly change, the safety and efficacy of preworkout supplements on the human body is of larger interest than ever before to athletes, performance coaches, and fitness enthusiasts alike. The use of beta-alanine, caffeine, and creatine in these preworkout supplements is safe for users as well as being effective in enhancing the results of an athlete or fitness enthusiast’s workout.

Silly Thoughts I Have!
Thoughts I have: I am not even sure there is an answer. So, if you have one, sweet. I took a shower yesterday and, as a lot of us are prone to do, we avoid direct water on our affected limb/s. Now the shower is not really part of this thought process, it is just where it began. I got out of the shower and my leg was thumping, as usual. I looked down and my leg is always swollen, so nothing new here, but I took a good look at my foot. I noticed it was dry, dry, dry. I just stepped out of the shower, people. DRY, I tell you! OK, well, I can't bend my leg to actually reach my foot. Also, ladies, some of you will relate, but my boobs get in the way and breathing becomes a challenge, you feel me? So regardless, my feet do not receive the care that they once knew and loved from me, I am telling you; hard, dry skin on the sides of my feet, by my toes, at my heels, creeping, and it is getting annoying. Not to mention a tad bit painful.

Possible Cures for Diabetes and the Causes of Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is not as common as Type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes requires insulin substitution shots to replace the hormone that a person with diabetes’ body no longer makes. Islet cells in the pancreas are what normally produce insulin and they also are made up of cells called beta cells, which analyze blood sugar levels that in full-blown diabetics are measured with a glucometer. The immune system turns traitor on islet cells when somebody becomes a diabetic. Beta cells cannot release insulin anymore when diabetes actually manifests itself. Alpha cells produce glucose. In diabetes, only the alpha cells function with glucose. Islet cells are attacked by the body’s immune system, and this makes type 1 diabetes an autoimmune problem.

The Moment I Became a Voice for the Voiceless
Growing up, I would always tell people how much I loved animals. Voice for the Voiceless I would say things like "animals are my biggest passion" or "the world would be such a boring place if animals did not exist." I would post comments on my social media such as "animals are the best thing on our planet." I loved animals so much that I went to college to study animal care. I have qualifications in animal care. I would spend all day in class learning about animals, talking about animals, and "caring" for animals, yet at least three times a day, I would eat them.
