The Complexity of Alzheimer’s
5,000,000! Five million, that’s a lot. Currently there are five million people living with Alzheimer’s disease in the U.S. That number is climbing at a frightening rate, as there is no known cure to the disease. This disease is corrupting the brains of millions, and although this disease has been exposed to the public through media and news, many of us still struggle to comprehend the gravity of it.

How to Get More Spoons When Chronically Ill
Getting enough spoons means trying to get enough sleep. Many disabled people do not sleep the whole night, as some could have sleep apnea. Mentally ill people not on medication hardly sleep through the night on top of this. Spoons are not all created equal. Sometimes a chronically ill person can have more spoons on some days rather than on others. It depends on what illness somebody has. We diabetics are taken out by low blood sugar or, for that matter, its opposite, high blood sugar. People with lupus can be fine one day and sick the next. Somebody with sickle-cell anemia is not feeling well during a crisis. People with hypothyroidism or over-active thyroid also called hyperthyroidism definitely have varying levels of energy.

People with bipolar disorder or schizophrenia do not always sleep well sometimes even while on meds. Some people have more spoons than others. If you are lucky, you do not have a chronic illness but then nobody gets enough sleep if you work full time. Or do you?

My Gym Starter Story
So, as you can tell from the title, I started the gym about one month ago and it has been a big struggle for me. It all started when I moved in with my partner about one year ago and realized that my jeans were starting to get a little tight about six months in, and for the life of me I thought it was because I was using a tumble dryer, so I thought nothing of it and just changed to air drying them.

Are You in Pain or Suffering?
Is it pain or suffering? Pain in the Physical Arena: In the early to mid-1970s, one of my aunts developed a terrible case of kyphosis (often confused with scoliosis). She began to hunch over badly and, from what I understand, the doctors predicted that it would eventually lead to organ failure. She was average height but for most of my life stood no more than four feet high, due to the curvature of her spine.

Atlanta Death Café
While living in Atlanta, I regularly attended meetings of the Atlanta Death Café (ADC), which were held almost monthly at the famous Oakland Cemetery. People are easily spooked by the subject of death. As a result, I try and not broach the subject unless it comes up in conversation.
