Ask Kat-Kat Chat: Self-Care Routine
I am sure that we have all found ourselves in a place in our lives where we feel that we are unsatisfied. Maybe even feeling a little restless in our daily routines, wondering what it will take to feel content again. Some of us may have even experienced times in our lives where it’s hard to focus or even get out of bed in the morning and just following the motions of our lives.

Living a Stress-Free Life
Stress is the number one killer in our society today. Stress can have a huge negative effect on the body to the point of death. How to Survive a Weight Loss Plateau
If you follow any weight loss plan, there will come a point (usually more than one if you are on a significant journey) when your weight will suddenly, and inexplicably, stop going down no matter what you do. This is known as a weight loss plateau and it sucks.

How I Overcame My Physical Incompetency
I guess I should start off by letting you know that I’m nobody special. In fact, I’m probably physically more inept than a lot of people. When I started breakdancing back in 2001, I noticed that there were different types of intellect out there. I made up some of them that made sense to me: Street smarts allowed you to read other people well, book smarts was how much actual information you can retain in your brain, creative smarts is knowing how to integrate all your thoughts for something useful, and then there was the dreaded physical smarts. I don’t mean using body language either (I think body language would fall under street smarts). Physical smarts to me was how much control you have over your body to do things. For instance, if someone showed you a few basic dance steps, someone physically smart would be able to understand what was needed and be able to perform it identically with the same rhythm.

What Is Chi?
Chi is the life force that permeates every living thing on this planet. Chi saturates everything, just like the Force in Star Wars. Prana is another Sanskrit term for this life force. When you practice yoga, you are moving the energy in your body to an end, such as holding the pose. If you stop breathing or breath in an off way, you lose the pose and fall over. Yoga is a discipline that helps you still your thoughts like water in a pond. One minute the water is chaotic, the next minute the water has found a way to stop rippling.

How Qigong Helped Me in the Past
I learned about Chow Qigong from Dr. Chow herself as I ran into a flier at San Francisco State on campus. Qigong is about having an energy system in the body flowing from one meridian to the next like ley lines on our planet. The Qi or Chi inside the body is a system by itself as much as the central nervous system is interconnected. Emotional distress can cause major Qi imbalances such as when a person is exposed to constant stress or bickering on the part of someone else. Hormones can also cause a Qi imbalance as most illness causes a Qi problem. The Chow system integrates acupuncture, acupressure, massage, and body work with visualization. Dr. Chow also uses touch therapy, counseling, as well as plenty of other therapeutic techniques.
