When Silence Becomes Shrill
My Dad suffers from Meniere's Disease. In addition to tinnitus and vertigo attacks, he is deaf in one ear. At least, sometimes he seems deaf in that ear. My family is often surprised to hear him say from another room that we are being too loud and it hurts his ears in response to us talking and laughing. Yet, when we call to him from the other room, he doesn't hear us. This phenomenon is known as recruitment.

I Tried the Illumy Smart Sleep Mask for a Month. Here's What Happened...
It was 3 AM, yet again, on a Wednesday night/Thursday morning. I was sitting in bed, with my eyes pointed up towards the ceiling, my partner right beside me snoring away. It was yet another night where I just couldn't seem to sleep for more than four hours.

(Dr. Axe: 9 Common Poses Most Likely to Trigger Yoga Injuries, Plus How to Overcome & Avoid Them) However, it is easy to get injured while doing yoga, and this article is about why. I injured myself by pivoting my foot the wrong way while doing a left lunge. That movement caused me to fracture my tibia at the knee. Low calcium did not help the situation as I wasn’t on a calcium supplement at the time, which made me often wonder why I felt tired when I worked out a lot—tired instead of energized, that is. I also dislocated my entire kneecap in that movement. I pivoted my foot to the left. I really shouldn’t have done that.

My Brain: "The Risk Taker"
I’ve always had these problems with sticking with one idea. My mind will jump from one to the next trying to wrap itself around a fleeting wisp of smoke in a hazy room. They’re so compacted in my head that, when one slips out, I have to grab it then body slam it to the floor to daze it. I need to stick with that idea, or it will never be finished. I can never decide what I want to write about. Do I want to talk about how I always seem to procrastinate writing essays? Or how I used to write stories during math class in elementary school?

Yoga's Many Benefits
I discovered yoga in 2007 while in college getting my BA in creative writing. I was looking for a way to manage stress. I wanted to find something that would help me relax. Yoga’s breathing techniques are what does that. Managing the breath is why people practice yoga, to begin with. Yoga poses are only held upright if you breathe into it. There are different types of yoga for different purposes. Yoga can help manage pain issues as well. Yoga helps the practitioner build an awareness of your body as well as how your mind affects that body of yours.
