Legendary Short Stories: Falsehoods and other lies we tell ourselves
Falsehoods and other lies we tell ourselves The beautiful thing about falsehoods and lies, if there could be anything beautiful about lies, is that they often time resemble facts in such a way as they have just enough of the truth to be convincing. Why do we believe such things, you may ask. I have a simple answer to that simple question: Because we WANT to believe them and for no other reason. Very oftentimes, reason has little to do with why believe what we believe.

A Message to Anti-Maskers
I’m at a loss for words right now. It seems like a majority of people have an issue wearing face masks. In the past few weeks, I’ve watched numerous videos online of people getting upset at businesses trying to enforce the rules by being asked to wear face coverings. In most of these situations, the so-called “Karen’s.” To me, they’re being entitled, selfish, and think that everything revolves around them. They think that attending large gatherings is more important than keeping themselves and others safe. Reading and hearing the number of new coronavirus cases were disturbing. On Sunday, there were 10 million COVID-19 cases and half a million deaths worldwide. This virus is not just a small flu. It has already taken tens of thousands of lives. If you think that COVID-19 is a hoax or a conspiracy, you are sorely mistaken. Everyone needs to take this pandemic seriously, young and old. It’s important that everyone listen to state health officials and follow the CDC guidelines. It’s only going to get worse before it starts to get better.

Not the Mask!
The country has begun to confront the oppression that has become inherent to it since before its founding. People are protesting en mass in every state, and most major cities about police brutality and systemic racism that has defined the Black experience for as long as they've been in this country. Even my own little community here in Utah had a small gathering to come together to bond and confront the racism that is prevalent here. But that's not what this little essay is about. It's about wearing masks.

I don't want to be 50
I don't want to be 50. I decided that I should stick where I am, all my plans for this year have been postponed or cancelled so why cant my birthday be as well. I had 3 concerts to go to, 2 holidays and I should be on honeymoon from my wedding 2 days ago. All moved to next year, the wedding was the most upsetting to cancel but there was no choice. I planned it partly so I had it in my mind rather then turning 50.

Social Proof.
NO. 3 SOCIAL PROOF Extracted from: Robert Cialdini – Influence. 6 Weapons of Influence. If you ever thought that “liking” or using a heart emoji was something new and only invented and used by millennials you’d be wrong! In the 1820s two famous Paris Opera “habitues” (regular Opera-goers), Saunton and Porcher, created a phenomenon called claquing. They organized themselves under the title L’Assurance des Success Dramatique (assurance of dramatic success) and they leased themselves and their cohorts to enthusiastically support an opera or theatre performance by their rapturous applause and cries of “bravo”. This, they assured the Theatre owners, would guarantee the enjoyment, reception, and success of any performance. And they were right! By 1830 the practice of spiking your audience with “Calqueurs” was standard practice. From laughter to crying and “spontaneous” applause, the “chef de claque” and his team would lead the unsuspecting audience into the same emotions and enthusiasm and thereby ensuring that when hey left the theatre they would spread the word. This is the power of social proof at it’s manipulative best.
