Resilience: How to Thrive during a Second-Wave Lockdown
There is a "second-wave" of COVID-19 cases in Victoria, Australia, which triggered a 6-week lockdown. The recent boom in cases (albeit much smaller in numbers compared to our American counterparts) has forced the hand of the Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews, to keep us under quarantine. This second-wave of quarantine is personally more mentally taxing than the first; considering how much hope I had for Australia to keep their numbers at bay before the second semester of university starts. [For our Global North folks, our academic calendar starts at the start of the year.]

What gets your body excited?
So what keeps me moving? I would have to say… “Music, Music, Music”. Who can say truthfully that they are not a huge fan of music, and when that song comes on that we all love you don’t find yourself enjoy it by moving with your body while taking it in with your mind and your soul.

Scarcity
NO. 6 SCARCITY Extracted from: Robert Cialdini – Influence. 6 Weapons of Influence. Why is it that when something we want or need is difficult to obtain our desire to possess it increases? This is the strange phenomenon of scarcity, a powerful weapon of influence, often used by advertisers, salespeople, and compliance professionals in order to focus our attention and our behavior. We have a natural bias for valuing things more simply because they are less available or represent a potentially lost opportunity.

The sad reality of COVID-19
In Canada we are now entering the third phase of quarantine where we are just now allowing all stores to open up again. There are still a lot of rules and regulations concerning the opening of businesses but for the most part they can open up again. We still have to be pretty diligent in preventing the illness from spreading to one another.

What Not Recognising Faces is Like
I have face blindness, which is a condition that makes it hard for me to recognise faces. Most people don't believe me when I tell them about it, so I try talking about it openly to raise more awareness. It's real, and it affects me on a daily basis. Just a disclaimer, people with face blindness have it at different degrees, and I'm talking only from my own experience. This is not what it's like for everyone, but this is how face blindness is for me.

The Only Vitamin You'll Ever Need
I’m a bit skeptical of vitamins. Like, all vitamins. I read this article from BBC about a year ago, and I was stunned by the amount of research showing that for non-malnourished adults, the use of vitamins actually increased their risk for disease (including cancer)!

Turning Point
When COVID-19 hit my hometown in Florida, it changed my life completely. Maybe for the better. Yes, I was scared because I got sick in March with bronchitis. The government told us to stay home if you're uncomfortable. I considered myself a high risk since I have asthma.

Learning to fly. Top Story - July 2020.
Heading towards Tower Bridge today in the rain, the light changed to amber just as I was reaching the approach to the span. I pulled my bike out in front of the traffic, waiting while a bus, a truck, passed in front of me on the Highway. I used to work near here – years ago now – so this neighbourhood always has a resonance for me, an echo of another life; but this morning I was thinking not about those vanished years but about the time, only four months ago, when waiting for the light here, being anywhere near here, made my heart pound with fear, with the certainty that I was bound to be knocked off my bike and flattened by a ton or two of moving metal. Four months ago I wasn’t a cyclist. Today, I am.

Run Because You Want To
Coming up on my 6th anniversary as a runner, my partner asked me what I’ve learned in my years running. As I scroll back through the memories - my first race, my first half marathon, running along the Mediterranean, running along Lake Austin - I am hit with a tiny remnant of the feeling of each run. From the beginning, running had it’s rewards and it’s cost, it’s triumphs and defeats. I’d like to think I’ve improved, or at least stopped making so many mistakes. Running used to be something I had to do rather than something I got to do. Now, I am free when I run. I am capable when I run. I accomplish something every run. Here’s how I have learned to change my mentality.

Lily Dale Assembly
Last summer my son and I took a trip to Lily Dale Assembly located in southwestern New York State. About an hour southwest of Buffalo, Lily Dale sits on the east side of Cassadaga Lake in a town called Pomfret. Lily Dale is the largest center in the United States of Spiritualist church organizations. A home to a large population of healers and mediums, Lily Dale attracts people worldwide on their quest for spirituality and new age interests. Unable to make it again this summer due to travel restrictions, I thought I would revisit through my story, sharing a peek of a genuinely intriguing little place.
