Staying Active & Healthy
Dreaded heat that makes your blood boil. Hot days where you just want to live in a pool. In the state of the world where everyone is isolated by many & shelter inside, our everyday routine is altered. Rushing for air we walk along the streets to see what would seem normal but the aftermath of what is still dormant. Feeling so slow & sluggish it is difficult to not just find the motivation to work out & be active but the find the confidence & thrive to keep going.

Inhale, Run, and Breathe
I never expected to become an avid runner. When I was younger I dreaded the idea of running, complaining endlessly in gym class, and shrugging off the exercise as nothing. I could never stand the pacers test (a routine in gym class where you had to run and see how many levels you could achieve in the allotted time). Now, I have come to love running.

Learning to breathe:
Scales are my nemesis. Not because I truly struggle with weight, thanks for birdlike genetics on my mother’s side, but because generally speaking, as I approach my mid-40’s my weight has decided to settle comfortably in a “healthy” zone, and just hang out. I used to monitor the numbers with an eagle eye, frantically trying to evaluate the impact of dietary changes, workouts, etc.. to no avail. The only adjustment was upward, as I inevitably fell victim to the Corona relapse. But even that was lackadaisical, as if the even effort of gaining weight seemed like too much work.

Is A Camera Also A Piece Of Exercise Equipment?
No Gym, What Now? In this extended pandemic in which we all live, the gym went from a place I spent time 5 days a week, to a place that was closed and I was not allowed to go to by statewide order for months, to a place that is now open but I do not really want to go at the moment for a number of reasons. However, getting the exercise I have desperately been missing is still very much a possibility now and strongly encouraged by the same folks who shut the gyms down in the first place. Outdoor exercise, trail walking, hiking, biking, running, and general activities that require moving one's body outdoors are considered to be the best way to keep in shape and in good health in a world where social distancing is also an important part of staying healthy. Though I have dabbled in certain outdoor sports from time to time, the one outdoor activity that has stuck with me over the years has been nature and wildlife photography.

Doing Vs Having
When I started writing for Vocal, my first article “Accidentally Minimalist” received a quite positive response. Throughout my personal quarantine journey, Minimalism is something I’ve become quite invested in, for a variety of reasons. So, I’ve decided that today, I’m going to share a little lesson about minimalism that the lockdown has taught me; the huge difference in value between having things, and doing things.
