Get Out of Your Head and Into the Moment
6 Simple Methods to Help You Be More Present and Increase Awareness

We've all told ourselves at one point or another that we need to get out of our heads. That we need to be more present, more "in the moment" or simply more grounded. But what does all this actually mean and why is it necessary in the first place? Spiritually speaking, being fully present, conscious, or aware means one is moving towards enlightenment or oneness with all things physical and non-physical (more on this later). "Okay..." you say, "now what does that mean?" I can say something fancy like: it is the realm of silence, of no thoughts where the mind is quiet which is otherwise also known (paradoxically) as mindfulness. A place within of peace, love and joy. Beyond happiness, sadness, fear, and anger lies peace. Beyond the ego and identification with form lies peace. A state you are at your most functional and your most focused where anything you do becomes imbued with the purity, peace and elation of that light. This would all sound great and fall pretty close to an intellectual definition of "being in the moment"... but will any of this get you there? So, here are a few practices to help you along that journey. Among the many explored over the past few millennia, here are a few that top my list based on simplicity, effectiveness, and time taken for the practice.
1. I am not my body. I am not my mind.
Developed by Isha Inner Sciences, this is a practice to take you beyond form and anchor you in the seat of your soul, also known as Isha Kriya (meaning inner work). Sit comfortably with legs crossed and palms facing upwards placed on your knees. With your face slightly upwards you should feel a soft pressure between your eyebrows. Now, with each inhalation say to yourself, I am not my body. And with each exhalation say I am not my mind. Continue this for 10 minutes with the help of a timer. Then, seven times, exhale into a deep 'aahhh' sound, feeling the vibration in your stomach. Slowly open your eyes.
2. Tuning into the Inner Energy Field
Close your eyes. Sit similarly as stated before. Now, consciously squeeze each body part and release starting from the feet, then legs, abs, back, chest, shoulders, face. Now feel the breath expanding the lower abdomen. Go deeper til you feel the whole body from the inside as one energy field. Go deeper. Let the body vanish til you feel infinite. Stay in this lake of peace for as long as you want. Then wake up each body part and finally the eyes.
3. Letting Go
The body is made up of 72000 energy pathways like nerves or veins. They meet at 114 critical junctions called chakras. Seven centers in the body are the main energy pathway centers, also known as Chakras. Most frequently, our heart center gets blocked off by bad energy and breath can no longer flow properly, causing emotional imbalance and other health issues.
Sit in a similar way as before. Focusing on your heart area, smile and look up til you feel a tension between your eyebrows, palms on the knees facing upwards. Now, any tension, thought, or emotion, just let it pass through, down the spine, out of the genitals, keeping your focus between the eyebrows. Keep smiling, now let go again and again, til you can even let these words pass through. If you feel any emotion or see visuals, just let them pass as you observe and do not react, keeping your focus centered. Visualizing the color green can be helpful as well, as that is the color associated with the heart chakra. When you feel ease and no chest tension or restriction, come out of it.
4. Gratitude
Gratitude is very underrated and combined with creative visualization can bring you to a place within yourself where you can manifest the kind of life you want.
Close your eyes. Sit in a similar position as stated earlier. Face up, legs crossed, palms opened upwards, gently placed on knees. Start visualizing how you want yourself to be in every aspect. Then start expanding to how you want your life and surroundings to be. Be careful to only focus on the end result. The goal is that the visual must be stronger than current reality and you have to believe it is true. You feel the feeling of having what you desire now and how you react to that. Maintaining this frequency will attract it like a magnet. This gets more powerful in conjunction with any of the other practiced mentioned above.
5. Dissolving the Pain Body
You know that pain you feel in your chest or throat or stomach? That's real and has a name. The pain body. And it's its own entity and survives by being fed by the ego. How do we get rid of it? If judgment and separation creates it, non judgement and observation dissolves it. Just focus in the pain with pure nothing. Just watch it, bring your focus to it, and watch it magically start to dissolve. The ego fears presence. Become present. Accept all. The good and the bad and watch how quickly the bad or the pain body disappears. Don't let your thoughts get hijacked by the pain. This is the most crucial. The pain body will try to justify its existence with painful memories and emotions. Do not give in. Just be the silent observer. Who is this you? The observing entity. The you sitting in seat of the soul. Peaceful and present.
6. Aura Energy Corrections
Sometimes there are environmental factors that affect one's health and well being. If there are electrical wires above your home or workplace, a water source under it, or bones buried in the backyard, all of these can significantly affect your health and energies on a daily basis. Aura Readers or "Aura Quantifiers" can use scanners and highly scientific methods to detect chakra imbalances and the source of the negative energies and suggest remedies for corrections to your home or workplace depending on what is affecting you the most which are usually fairly cheap. More info from the experts here.
Try a combination of these daily or as frequently as you can based on what you require to move forward in your life and become more present. There are many more advanced practices that accelerate your journey but this is a nice springboard to start off of. I wish you all the love, peace, and joy to tackle your day effectively and joyously.
