Each week when I do these readings I set up my reading space with black fabric (for the photo, mostly but it also allows for and smooth, calm space to focus on the cards) make sure I have undisturbed quiet time; dogs are out, husband is at work/play/store/whatever, phone is off, etc… I begin with a quick grounding meditation and settle into a centered peace to ask for guidance in choosing the cards which will be most appropriate for the week ahead. I shuffle the cards with my intent in mind and spread them in a dealer’s “ribbon spread”. Then with eyes closed, I ask for the Center card, the West card and finally, the East card, reaching out to the spread, touching the cards and choosing the one that feels most fully under my finger tip, then sliding them into their positions. Before opening my eyes I return to a calm, centered state and do my best to sense whether the three cards I’ve chosen are the most fitting for the highest and best for all involved. Only then do I turn them face up and photograph them for the reading. There are times when I see the three cards before me and groan or breathe a sigh of relief but I always use the cards I’ve selected ”blindly”.

That said;

The Center card this week is the 5 of Swords.

Unlike the six from last week that had us seeing things very clearly, this member of the Swords element, the five, shows us what it looks like when things go haywire. In our clarity and power stance last week we most likely got a glimpse of how we truly want things to be and the changes that recognition triggered have set new ideas in motion and sent them in new directions. One of the more difficult things about changes is that when we choose to make them it affects everyone around us. Communications based on changing ideas and plans can cause confusion and frustration for those around you who either choose not to change or see the change differently. As a result we may be facing hard truths and challenges.

The West card is Adjustment. (similar to Justice in RWS)

One saving grace for us this week is that the confusion and discombobulation of the five of Swords is seen and understood to be a gift of opportunity. In the card of Adjustment we find our highest human potential to see the balance, the true justification, in all things. Even in the face of seeming chaos we’re able to recognize that the chaos itself is part of a larger balance. That a Universal equalizer includes chaos to balance specificity and unity. Think of the dams we have that generate power. When we dam the flow of a river the area downstream dries up and the area upstream becomes flooded. In controlling the floodgates we’re able to not only control where the water floods or recedes but also use the power of the molecular chaos in flowing water to create electrical energy, giving it a specific purpose.

The East card is the Universe. (similar to The World in RWS)

To me, the Universe card shows us the completion and Unity of the whole of our Universe as it includes us in our most singular and specific form. It allows us to see ourselves as an integral part of a macrocosm which is so large as to confound the capacity of our human brains. When I was around 12 years old I remember one night I was lying on the ground looking up at the stars and thinking about infinity. (We must have been learning about that idea in school.) I found myself trying to put the description of never ending into something that I could understand. Each time I thought I had it, the lesson that it couldn’t be solid or knowable saw that grasp of the thing slip through my intellectual fingers. Not finite cannot be a finite thought or conclusion. Frustrating isn’t it? I still think about the concept of infinity and I still hope I can wrap my mind around it even though I also know that even the idea of understanding is finite in itself and that defeats the purpose or reality of Infinity. Human physicality is finite.

In conclusion:

This week we will likely be dealing with conflicting plans, ideas and definitions. The cool thing is that even amid the chaos of disagreement or miscommunication we actually see the bigger picture of how the discord fits the end result. It might not be as easy as we want it to be or as smooth as possible but it IS a necessary part of the process. So the best way forward is through and the easiest transition includes a steady focus on the ends that justify the difficult means. Eyes on the prize.

Have an infinitely balanced week.

Light, Tory

TIP for the week: We cross infinity in every step; we meet eternity in every second. Rabindranath Tagore
