Mirror Dragon Tarot

Each week when I do these readings I set up my reading space with black fabric (for the photo, mostly but it also allows for and smooth, calm space to focus on the cards) make sure I have undisturbed quiet time; dogs are out, husband is at work/play/store/whatever, phone is off, etc… I begin with a quick grounding meditation and settle into a centered peace to ask for guidance in choosing the cards which will be most appropriate for the week ahead. I shuffle the cards with my intent in mind and spread them in a dealer’s “ribbon spread”. Then with eyes closed, I ask for the Center card, the West card and finally, the East card, reaching out to the spread, touching the cards and choosing the one that feels most fully under my finger tip, then sliding them into their positions. Before opening my eyes I return to a calm, centered state and do my best to sense whether the three cards I’ve chosen are the most fitting for the highest and best for all involved. Only then do I turn them face up and photograph them for the reading. There are times when I see the three cards before me and groan or breathe a sigh of relief but I always use the cards I’ve selected ”blindly”.

That said;

The Center card this week is the 6 of Swords.

When we look at the Minor Arcana of the Tarot, the Ace through the ten represent the lessons each respective suit or element offers. They’re the learning steps we take towards the activation of the court cards, where we begin to implement those lessons and add the practical knowledge needed to develop deeper wisdom. The sixes are at the center and show us the four elements at their practical best. The six of Swords is where we’re able to see the aspects of a situation and figure out how they work without losing sight of the “bigger picture”. We’ve moved through the detail and fact finding stage and can now see how it all fits together or doesn’t. Having experienced what works and, sometimes painfully, what doesn't, we can now recognize where the balance sits and should be able to tell when that balance shifts or changes and act accordingly. What this means for the week is that we can see the truth and/or reality of our situations very clearly and whether that realization is painful or joyful, we now have the chance to take the steps needed to move things along in a direction of our own choosing.

The West card is the Ace of Wands.

The Aces represent that element in its purest form. They show us the root, the foundation and the beginning of recognition. With the Ace of Wands we find the spark of passion and the fire of creativity. When I say creativity I don’t mean just art, music, literature, though those things are great representations of the idea. What I mean is the dynamic drive to go beyond what we’ve experienced so far. Like the early explorers who had the passion to actually sail to the “edge” of the world to satisfy their ideas and suspicion that the world didn’t have an edge but continued on into unknown places. Places they wanted to see and experience. With this drive and the clarity of thought supported by the 6 of Swords, new ideas, new directions and new conclusions become real and doable.

The East card is The Magician.

My father was a doctor and one of the concepts that he held dear was the notion that the true occupation of the physician is to engage the patient while the body heals itself. This is the way I see the Magician. Within him are the knowledge, the tools, the talent and the energy to affect real change plus the understanding that he is as much a conduit as an instrument. The Magician knows what works in a given situation and is ready to adjust, tweak, release or instruct towards that end. With the clarity of thought and the fiery dynamic of curiosity and new ideas we find in the other cards this week, this card stands to nudge us in the right direction. Whether it’s our own inner voice, a parent, a boss or a stranger, the voice of reason and wisdom (the two are not the same) can thump us on the head with inspiration opening a whole new way of being at this time. Expect the unexpected. Our minds are clear and creativity is rampant.

In Conclusion;

This is a week of realization, revelation and action. With fire and air combined to crystalize ideas into plans the powerful Magician gives us the final nudge, tap, shove or thwack to knock the sense out of our heads and the possibilities in. This is a great time to challenge the status quo, break the bonds of repetition and habit, and plan out what steps will take us to new experiences. Breathing life into stale or static situations and stripping away the restraints of doubt or confusion allows us to explore and expand.

Have an unexpected week.

Light, Tory
