Aconitum napellus: The first remedy to be thought of for children with complaints of cold and cough caused after exposure to dry, cold wind or very hot weather. The cough will be dry and short which worsens at night with some difficulty in breathing which increases with movements. This remedy should be given in the early period of these complaints.

Antimonium tartaricum: This medicine is suited for symptoms when there is a rattling of mucus which comes out in a small quantity. The cough increases from eating causing pain in the chest and throat. These complaints are also accompanied by sleepiness, weakness and sweat.

Arsenicum album: If there is watery discharge from the nose which burns the skin and becomes worse in the open air, the child has difficulty in breathing and is unable to lie down. This homoeopathic medicine works best when the above-stated symptoms are present along with a state of restlessness.

Bryonia alba: For coryza accompanying pain in forehead, dry cough from irritation in throat which becomes worse at night and soreness, this remedy works best.

Drosera rotundifolia: If there is incessant coughing leading to choking sensation that becomes worse at midnight, a rough scrapped sensation in the throat and as soon as the child goes to sleep, starts coughing.

Hepar sulphuris: This medicine is indicated if there is inflammation of the air passages with profuse discharges and sweating. Choking cough, the child has to sit up and bendhis head backwards to get relief from suffocation.

Natrum sulphuricum: In coryza, there is thick yellow discharge from the nose. Symptoms worsen at night and the child has to sit up to get relief.

Pulsatilla: Coryza with stopping of the nose with pain. The smelling power is hampered, Dry cough, yellow mucus with symptoms getting worse in the evening.

Rumex crispus: It is indicated when there is a cough caused by excessive tickling in the throat pit with a feeling of rawness in the throat. The cough worsens while talking or inhaling cool air.

Spongia tosta: Coryza with running nose, dry cough with hoarseness of voice accompanied by dryness of the air passages. The cough relieves from drinking warm liquids while worsens in a warm room and when lying with head low.

Common cold and cough are conditions which affect children of all ages. Homoeopathic medicines can cure them effectively and without any side effects.
