Do you want to make your mind sharper, faster, and more effective?

How can we train our brains to make them smarter?

If you want to make your mind sharper, faster, and more efficient, you should do the following:

1. Get more exercise. Aerobic activities like jogging and swimming can flood your brain with oxygen and improve blood circulation. Plus, exercise helps your brain create new neurons, boosting the growth of brain cells. Aim to work out at least three times a week for no less than 30 minutes each time.

2. Drink more water. Staying hydrated significantly boosts your brain's performance. About 75% of your brain is made of water, and maintaining that level is essential for optimal function. If you're dehydrated, your brain will start to slow down and your memory will suffer. It’s recommended to drink 250ml of water every hour, totaling about 2 liters a day.

3. Get more sunlight. Sun exposure not only helps with vitamin D production but also increases the release of serotonin, improving your mood and concentration. Plus, UV rays can promote the synthesis of glutamate, which helps activate neural circuits related to learning and memory, strengthening your cognitive abilities.

4. Meditate and calm your mind. Spend half an hour each day meditating to clear your mind; it’s like a maintenance workout for your brain. Meditation has been shown to thicken the prefrontal cortex, enhancing focus and promoting the growth of brain cells, helping to delay cognitive decline.

5. Go to bed earlier. Getting enough sleep is crucial for brain health. Your brain uses a lot of energy daily and produces waste that needs to be cleaned up through sleep. Aim to hit the hay before 11 PM and get at least 7 hours of quality sleep.

6. Cultivate hobbies. Whether it’s work or school, stress can pile up. Hobbies, things you genuinely enjoy, can help relax your brain and alleviate fatigue. Try to develop one or two interests as a palate cleanser in your life.

7. Give hugs. The physical contact from hugging boosts serotonin levels. That serotonin brings about feelings of happiness and joy in the brain.

8. Talk to someone. Everyone experiences stress and worries, and holding them in isn’t good for your brain. Confiding in someone can release the negativity stored in your mind, leaving you feeling lighter.

9. Socialize more. Prolonged isolation can lead to depression and other mental health issues, putting your brain in a rut. Interacting with others can open up new perspectives, stimulate thinking, and even spark fresh ideas. Plus, the mental exchanges during conversations can sharpen your brain.

10. Get proper nutrition. Make sure to nourish your brain, especially after intense study or thought sessions. High-quality proteins like milk and eggs promote brain cell growth. Seafood, particularly deep-sea fish, is rich in fatty acids that enhance cognitive efficiency. Nuts like walnuts, cashews, and almonds are packed with unsaturated fats and nutrients that help improve memory.

11. Read as much as you can. The knowledge you accumulate through reading each week is priceless. Make reading a habit—focus on meaningful content rather than celebrity gossip or social media lists. Even if it’s just a chapter a day, sticking to your reading plan will enrich your intellect.

12. Listen to more music. Music can enhance brain function, soothe your mind, and stabilize your emotions. It affects your hearing and can stimulate cortical excitement, keeping your brain engaged and vibrant.

13. The more stable your inner environment is, the less likely your thoughts will be interrupted by random distractions. A big reason many people struggle with long-distance thinking is tied to the chaotic fluctuations in their internal hormones.

To achieve this, as ancient sages taught, you should treat maintaining a calm and composed demeanor as a daily practice.

15. Rest. The more you value your work, the more you should prioritize your rest time. The higher your position and the busier you are, the more you need to elevate the importance of rest.

16. Don't be a slave to your phone.

When you're studying, if you have your phone right in front of you with notifications on, your efficiency will definitely suffer. As soon as you turn on notifications, all sorts of messages will start flooding in.

17. You can't focus on two things at once; concentrate on what’s in front of you.

Many people think multitasking boosts productivity, but that’s an illusion. In reality, it just adds to your brain’s workload and decreases efficiency. Spending 30 minutes focused on one task is ten times more effective than switching between ten tasks every three minutes.
