6 Unconventional, Yet Effective Ways to Help on Your Fat Loss Journey

By NabresPublished 4 years ago 5 min read

Hello friends! Today I wanted to share six weight loss tips to help you shed those extra pounds in a healthy sustainable way. Now this one, is a little more outside the box, and not your old run of the mill weight loss tips.

I think we have already heard so much of those already, that I decided to dig a little deeper for this one, and document some of the methods I feel can bring an impactful difference for you, as they did for me, when I started on my weight losing journey.

For many years, I tried all the diets, and I did everything. And yet those love handles were as stubborn as ever and refused to melt away, all the while blocking me for the change I so desired. This is why, I want to share with you some of the tips that helped me along my journey, and lo and behold, the majority were mental.

Tip No.1: Weight Loss is Just Weight Loss

Yes folks, weight loss is only meant to torch off that fat from problem areas . Weight loss is not meant to make you more happier, more whole, more valuable or more worthy. Due to the current values in society, tremendous pressure is put on us in regard to our bodies. This is why we link those feelings of worth, happines, value and being accepted with a fit body, and thinking that your actual body is not enough, that it doesn't fit the bill.

But coming from a state in which you feel broken, and need fixing, on a subconcious level, you're constantly plotting and working against yourself. Even if you would lose the weight, you will always see yourself as that puffy, unsuccesful person. Losing weight, or anything external for that matter, cannot in and of itself make you happier and fullfilled as a human being.

This is the emotional and mental work that needs doing outside of the weight loss process. And more often times than not, weight loss is the by-product of doing that work first. We need to start from a place of unconditional self-love and showing up for ourselves in a gentle, heartfelt way, no matter our current status.

Tip No. 2: There are NO Rails

If you have ever tried to lose weight in the past, you've certainly tried some kind of diet, or impose some kind of restriction upon yourself. You make the plan and you actually follow it for a while. Then, the inevitable comes when you make the first mistake: you eat that donut or that piece of chocolate, you drink that coke and so on. You feel you fell of the rails and that leads to more and more bad behaviour, until you reach the point where you think "What's even the point. I'm never gonna make it".

I'm here to tell you that it's ok, and that I understand you. Perfection is non-existent; it's a never ending journey. And it needs to be taken one step at a time. Don't stop eating those donuts and drinking the coke from the get go. Just make one step toward your goal. Eat only one donut less than yesterday and drink one glass less than yesterday. Progress is what makes us happy and you should celebrate those little wins, even if they don't seem that important. Before you know it, the "Pringles Effect"(ironic, I know) will take place, and you know how it is with Pringles - you can never stop after eating only one chip. And easy-easy this will snowball into better habbits for you.

Tip No.3: Instead of Focusing on Loss, Focus on Gain

This can be the most important mental shift for you if you play it right. Change the frame - instead of thinking of all the sugary and empty carbs you're cutting out of your diet and will set a scarcity mindset, concentrate on all the deliciousness and health you will be adding to it. Make it fun, make it a game you can enjoy. What new ingredient did you see in that magazine? What new recipe have you read in that blog? Make experiments, try new things. This way you can replace the punishment with fun and excitement. Scarcity will be replaced with abundance. This is how you make that mental shift, and make the process of weight loss more enjoyable and the most important - sustainable on the long run.

Tip No.4: The Squeeze Technique

You've heard it folks. The big overhaul and 180 path change in life doesn't come over night. Creation of new habits is a long road - it takes time, it takes practice and it takes discipline. I know, it's hard, but nothing good ever comes in life the easy way. That's why I said earlier to take it easy, one step at a time.

Remember the "Pringles Effect"? at your next meal, instead of the french fries, maybe use some sweet potatoes. Instead of that glass of coke, maybe try some water. Don't go running 10 miles - start with 0.5. Do just one pushup, one pullup, one something. Just one! Because when you start, you won't just stop. And adding these good habits step-by-step, you'll eventually squeeze out all the bad ones, until you'll look back and won't believe the progress you've made.

Tip No.5: The Journey is More Important that the Destination

Just hear me out on this one. I know you want to shed those love handles, but just think about it. You've applied all the tips until now, you've made new habbits. You've kept yourself accountable on a daily basis and everyday you reached your set goal. You've ate those greenies, you drank that water, you made those pushups and you've ran 2 miles instead of that 0.5. You've proved to yourself that you can do whatever you've set your mind on. Is there anything left to stop you? Heck no! Now it all depends on what's your next goal. And this is how you also stay motivated. Celebrate those daily wins, and the progress will keep your batteries full for the next day.

Tip No.6: Gentleness is Key

Be gentle to yourself. There will be days when you will misstep and that's okay. Don't let it discourage you and don't let it breed negative thoughts in your head. When you diverge from your path, don't fret. Take a step back, reflect, take the opportunity to view it from an angle of compassion and curiosity. Learn from the detour, understand it and readjust to your direction instead of rejecting the entire thing. If you take this approach, the forward progress will be considerably better than playing the blame and victim game. Take this journey of weight loss as an opportunity to know yourself and your body. Foster a new kind of relationship with yourself - one of kindness, love and self-esteem. Remember, you are already powerful and worthy and you need no one's approval except yourself

It is my honest hope that these tips will resonate with you and will help you on your journey no matter the goal
