We can find pills, powders and drinks everywhere, whether on supermarket shelves or the online marketplace. These products claim to help us in fat burning as well as metabolism speeding without any substantial effort. With so many choices available now a day, it is quite hard to say which product actually works and which are backed by science.
In this article, we look at the seven most commonly used weight-loss supplements, how effective they are, how safe they are, and a new eighth option that is worth trying: Mitolyn.
1. Green Tea Extract.
Green tea extract is one of the most popular weight loss ingredients. Green tea has a high level of catechins which is a type of antioxidant and also has EGCG. EGCG is also a compound that can increase burning fat when combined with caffeine.

Mild stomach upset possible side effect. In rare cases, liver complications have been reported.
3. Caffeine.
Many weight loss products contain caffeine because of its stimulant effects. It improves energy levels and calorie burning.
According to experts, caffeine might speed up your metabolism and help your body burn fat. However, it can quickly build tolerance, rendering it useless.
Risks: Can cause jitteriness, insomnia and heart rate increase especially when taken in larger dose.
4. Glucomannan.
Glucomannan is a natural fiber of konjac plant root. It swells in the stomach and promotes satiety, decreasing calorie intake.
According to research, glucomannan may be helpful for moderate weight loss, but must be accompanied by a calorie-controlled diet and taken with water before meals.
There is a risk of choking or blocking of the intestines and hence use it with plenty of water. Bloating or gas may occur in some users.
5. Raspberry Ketones.
These chemical compounds are found in red raspberries, and are now made in a lab for supplements. They are promoted to aid the breakdown of fat and increase the levels of adiponectin, a hormone that affects metabolism
Here’s what science says: Not done on Humans. Most evidence comes from animal or lab studies and offers little real world proof of weight loss benefits.
Human safety not yet established. Potential risk. You may feel jittery with uncomfortable feeling when taken with stimulants.
6. Forskolin.
Forskolin comes from the root of Coleus forskohlii. It’s thought to increase fat loss by raising levels of cAMP, which is involved in metabolism.
According to science, small studies has shown a slight drop in body fat without a big impact on body weight. Larger, more rigorous studies are needed.
Possible side effects can decrease blood pressure and interact with drugs. If you have a heart condition, take under medical supervision.
7. CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid).
CLA is a kind of good fat that occurs naturally in meat and milk from cows. It’s often used in fat-burning supplements.

What science says: Some studies suggest that CLA may slightly reduce body fat, although it affects everyone differently.
