We all have the same goal in mind: to have a great year. And while we've all heard the saying 'sleep is for the weak', and that's just something we need to push through on those late nights at work, it's time we take a step back and reevaluate our priorities. While I'm not saying you should stop working hard and be lazy, it might be time to start prioritizing your sleep over other tasks so that you can achieve your goals this year with more.

Think about it: You probably spend a third of your life asleep, so why not make it the best time of your day?

However, many people are sleep deprived. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately one-third of adults get less than seven hours per night. Even more alarming is that 85% of Americans don't meet the CDC's guideline recommendation of 7–9 hours—at least not on a regular basis.

The importance of sleep

We’re always told to “get enough sleep” or “take a power nap” to fix whatever ails us. But why is sleep so important?

Getting the right amount of sleep isn’t just about feeling refreshed. It’s also about increasing your performance, finding better success in your relationships, and improving your health.

Studies show that a lack of sleep can cause difficulties with memory and attention, as well as a decrease in productivity. The opposite is also true: getting enough sleep can have a positive impact on all these things.

When we compare modern day humans to our ancestors, it’s obvious that we are all getting less sleep than we ought to. In fact, studies have shown that many people get as little as 4.3 hours of sleep a night. This is not nearly enough to be healthy.

Our bodies were built to function optimally with 7-9 hours of sleep a night, and there are many benefits that come with getting this much rest each night.

Many people don’t get enough sleep, which is a major issue. Sleep plays an important role in our daily lives and it’s been proven that sleep deprivation can cause early death. There are many reasons why people don’t prioritize their sleep, but the main reason is that people often don’t realize the importance of sleep.

What are some easy ways to help yourself fall asleep faster?

There is a lot of information on how to cure insomnia, but it can be hard to sift through all of it and decide what will work best for you. Here’s a quick breakdown of the best ways to fall asleep fast, and why they work.

1. Don’t drink alcohol before bed. Alcohol prevents your body from reaching a deep sleep, making it very hard for you to wake up in the morning refreshed. If you need something warm to drink before bed, try warm milk or chamomile tea instead.

2. Don’t eat too much before

Tips for better sleeping habits (such as turning off electronics)

There are plenty of ways to improve your sleep hygiene, but it can be tough to keep on track. Start by incorporating these simple habits into your daily routine:

1. Go to bed at the same time every night, and get up at the same time every morning.

2. Exercise regularly, but not right before bed.

3. Avoid eating a big meal right before bedtime, since it could make you feel uncomfortable and prevent you from falling asleep quickly.

4. Avoid drinking alcohol close to bedtime (it can disrupt sleep).

5. Avoid using your computer
