Too Much Spray Paint

Glitter & Spray Paint

By Jill KossPublished 5 years ago 2 min read

Do you ever get that itch to want to create something, or just want to give something a facelift?

Well that's where I found myself this summer!! I wanted to get my yard cleaned up and back in shape this spring, and for some reason, I just wanted to spray paint literally everything!! And when I say everything, I do mean everything! I re painted every lawn ornament, flower pot decoration, rock, trellis, heck I even spray painted all of the cream cans we have in our yard! Heck, I even re-painted our patio lights, which are just hard plastic cups strung on some christmas lights!

I've got two colour schemes going on this year! Our patio is red, white and blue, and then the rest of the yard is pink, yellow, green and blue! I tried to re-paint things to their original colour- like our cream separator which I re-painted black! Other things got a whole new colour, like a shovel that I painted pink, green and blue!

I think all said and done, I've probably bought at least 20 cans of spray paint this year, and changed my mind like a dozen and a half times! I would paint something one colour, let it sit a day or two and then decide I didn't like it that colour, and re-painted it! Although I did find that trying to paint certain sections different colours on one item proved to be a little harder with spray paint than it would be with say acrylic paint! Although all of the rocks I painted this summer I did paint with acrylic, sealed them, and they have lasted!

This cement pad with The Magic School Bus quote has been painted twice already this year! Originally it was similar colours- just a bit more muted and had black writing. Well with the weather we have here, and the fact that I didn't seal it, lets just say it took a pretty good beating!

And because I was out of the original colours, I re-bought but in brighter colours and decided to give it a white font instead! (And also add a tonne of glitter!)

The process was super easy! I just took my spray paint and started painting different coloured blobs until I liked how it looked, and had filled up the entire area! Then while it was still wet, I dumped regular craft glitter on it ( best thing for the environment, probably not- but I refuse to pay $14 for glitter sealer!!) and then once it had dried, I coated it in a sealer, and while the sealer was wet, dumped more glitter on!! (yes, I do have a glitter problem!) And then one more coat of sealer!

All in all, I am super happy how it turned out, as well as everything else I upcycled this year!! I just had a hankering to give a facelift to a good number of my outside ornaments! Plus I really didn't want to have to go and re-buy anything! Reduce, Reuse, Recycle right?! :)

I found that re-spray painting alot of my old ornaments gave them a new lease on life and it sure brightened up my yard! As did the 45 solar lights I bought this year too!

If anyone ever tells you you're using too much glitter or spray paint- don't listen to them! You don't need that kind of negativity in your life! :)
