All Of The Sparkles!!

Crafting with Sequins

By Jill KossPublished 5 years ago 2 min read

So, I'm that type of person, who goes to the Dollar store to pick up a gift bag, or a card whatever, and I just cannot help but go to the craft aisle!! Do I need anymore craft supplies for my stash? Absolutely not!!!! But I always seem to migrate to the craft section, my eye catches something new, which I promise myself that I will use for a specific craft, and then get home, it gets stashed away, and I never end up using it!! Sound familiar?! I really hope I'm not the only one!

But something I also do in the craft aisle, as well as in the home decor aisle, is get ideas for new crafts to make! I mean come on, you're telling me you're selling a picture frame filled with a quote and some sequins for like $4, when I can buy the supplies and make like 4 of them for waaaayyyy less?!

That's what happened with this craft! I was at my local Dollar store, and saw these frames, filled with sequins, but I really didn't like the quote that was in it! And I thought to myself, well I can make that! So I grabbed the supplies I thought I might need, which really wasn't alot. All I grabbed were sequins, which I didn't already have at home, and a deep set picture frame! The paper and hot glue I already had!

So when I got home, I hopped onto Google Images and started looking for quotes that I liked! I stumbled upon a couple I liked and printed them off! I had to print them off quite a few times to get them to fit the frame (I totally suck at sizing!)

Once I had the quote printed off and to the size I needed, I took the backing off the frame, filled the frame with what I thought would be enough sequins, set my quote on top, put the backing back on, and BAM!! I had an exact replica of what I saw in store, and it only cost me like $3.25 before taxes for supplies, and I had enough sequins left to make a few more!

The only thing I might do differently next time would be to glue or tape the quote to the frame backing, it would help with the bubbling of the paper!

I ended making the one on the left as a birthday gift for a friend of mine, and the one on the right as a grad gift for another friend!

They are super easy and so much fun to make! My only tip is DO NOT use regular craft glitter in place of the sequins!! I tried that on another one, and there was glitter EVERYWHERE!!!!! The frame doesn't seal well enough to use regular craft glitter!!

I also was able to make one for my cousin as wedding gift!! I picked up a bigger, deeper set frame, used acrylic paint to paint the quote on the glass: And They Lived Happily Every After, and inside with the white sequins, I was able to fill it with acrylic diamonds I found at the dollar store! OMG was it gorgeous!! Definitely one of the best crafts I've made!!

Because, why would you buy something, when you can make it yourself?! Sometimes yes, it does cost more in supplies than it would be just to buy it, but then you don't get to have fun and feel accomplished at the end! :)
