The Reward Of Honesty

Ahmed was a boy who lived in a tiny village with green fields all around and big mountains nearby. He came from a poor but honest family, and his father and mother instilled in him virtues of honesty, kindness, and hard work. Although Ahmed did not have much, he was never unhappy and had a clean heart. His dad used to tell him, "Never give up your honesty in exchange for something in life."

One sunny morning, Ahmed was going to the market to purchase some groceries for his mother. Walking along the dusty road, he saw something shiny close to a bush. He walked closer out of curiosity and discovered a wallet on the ground. It was made of good leather and seemed very costly. When he opened it, he was amazed to find a lot of money in it, along with some valuable documents and an identity card.

Ahmed's heart pounded. He realized that money could benefit his family in numerous ways. For a moment, he considered keeping it, but then he recalled what his father had told him. He breathed in deeply and made up his mind to return the wallet to its owner regardless of what happened.

By referring to the address on the ID card, Ahmed went several kilometers to get to the house of the owner. It was a big house at the boundary of the village. Nervously, Ahmed pressed the doorbell. A middle aged man opened the door and was worried and upset looking. Ahmed politely uttered, "Sir, I saw this wallet along the road. I think it is yours."

The eyes of the man widened in relief and shock. He examined the wallet hurriedly and embraced Ahmed tightly, tears filling his eyes. "I don't believe it! I thought it was gone for good. You are a real blessing, my boy. Thank you so much!" the man cried.

He rewarded Ahmed for honesty, but Ahmed blushingly smiled and declined, explaining, "No, sir. My parents taught me to always do the right thing. This was my duty." The man was highly impressed by the sincerity of Ahmed and complimented him generously.

Days went by, and Ahmed resumed his simple life, giving the incident little consideration. One day, though, a letter reached Ahmed's door. It was an employment letter from a well-established company in the nearby town. Ahmed was taken aback and thrilled but also confused Ahmed never applied for work.

Quickly, he discovered that the same individual whose wallet he had returned was a well known businessman. Taken aback by Ahmed's integrity and good heart, he had offered him the job so that he would be able to provide a brighter future for himself.

Ahmed's parents were over the moon with pride, and Ahmed himself felt an overwhelming sense of joy and thankfulness. His act of honesty had brought such a huge turnabout in his life.

From then onwards, Ahmed strived hard and ascended to the heights of success. Never did he remember his poor beginnings or the moral he had gathered: that honesty, although sometimes challenging, ultimately results in goodness.

Moral Of The Story:

No matter how tempting the wrong path may seem, honesty and integrity will always bring true success and peace of mind. Life has a way of rewarding those who choose to do the right thing.
