The One Habit That Saved My Sanity
A simple daily practice that brought peace in the middle of chaos.
A simple daily practice that brought peace in the middle of chaos.
There’s a breaking point we all reach. Mine came quietly—no big moment, just a slow build of exhaustion, anxiety, and noise. I was surviving, not living. Until one small habit changed everything. It didn’t cost anything, and it didn’t require hours. But it gave me back control over my mind—and my peace.
Chaos Had Become Normal
There was a time when my days blended into each other, full of tasks, stress, and distractions. I was always “on,” always rushing to meet expectations—both real and imagined. Every message, every demand, every bit of unfinished business echoed in my head long after I’d put my phone down.
At night, I couldn’t rest. My thoughts raced ahead to tomorrow’s problems before I had even recovered from today’s. I tried everything—planning better, waking up earlier, even working late. But none of it worked. I was doing more and more, and feeling worse and worse.
That’s when I knew I had to pause. If I didn’t change something, I was going to crash. Deep down, I didn’t want a productivity hack—I wanted peace. I just didn’t know how to find it.
The Habit That Changed It All
One morning, I woke up early and did something I hadn’t done in months: nothing.
I sat quietly, before the world started pulling me in every direction. No phone. No background noise. Just me and silence. I took a few deep breaths and closed my eyes. I wasn’t trying to meditate or achieve anything—I just wanted to stop running for a moment.
That moment turned into ten minutes. And those ten minutes became a daily habit.
I started waking up a bit earlier each day, not to “grind” but to be still. I didn’t always feel peaceful during those minutes, but I always felt real. It was like pressing reset before life got loud again.
There were mornings I didn’t feel like doing it. But I showed up anyway. And over time, I began to crave that stillness—the way some people crave coffee or music. It became my sacred time.
Stillness Gave Me Back My Mind
What surprised me most wasn’t just the calm—it was the clarity. When I sat in silence, I noticed patterns in my thinking. I could tell when fear was driving me, when comparison was distracting me, or when I was believing lies about myself that weren’t true.
That’s when I realized: most of my stress wasn’t from what was happening outside, but from how I was reacting inside.
Stillness helped me respond instead of react. It helped me think more clearly, speak more kindly, and choose more wisely.
It didn’t erase my problems. But it gave me the strength to face them with a better mindset.
The Bible and Stillness
Later, I came across a verse that echoed what I was experiencing:
📖 “Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
This simple instruction reminded me that stillness isn’t weakness—it’s wisdom. It's an act of trust. When we pause, we give space for faith, reflection, and healing to happen.
It’s in the stillness that we remember who’s really in control—and it’s not us.
If You’re Feeling Overwhelmed…
Stillness might not seem like much. It might feel like a waste of time when you’re already behind. But I’m telling you—it works.
You don’t need hours. Start with five minutes. Breathe. Sit. Pray. Let your thoughts rise and settle like waves. You’ll be surprised what you learn about yourself.
The world is loud. But peace is possible—if you make room for it.
This one habit truly saved my sanity. And it just might save yours too.
