In this study, rats were divided into four groups: a control group fed standard rat food and three groups that consumed a combination of healthy and processed foods high in fat and sugar. The rats consuming the highest amounts of fatty and sugary foods performed the poorest in memory tests. Furthermore, those on a high-fat, high-sugar diet gained more weight compared to the control group.
