I Love the Hate
A video with a tiny amount of views (so far) led me to a big observation
So, I just had the most views and subscribers on my YouTube Channel based on one video. It concerns the idea of Ayn Rand’s lack of influence on hip hop culture and the irony this presents. Miss Rand’s understanding of life, sex, and money should reflect with what rappers and other hip hop figures see in themselves.
”Hate Me Now” by Nas festuring Puff Daddy
I’m proud of it. I spoke for an entire hour and I only had a few hiccups. Overall I give myself a B rating, which means very good. Not excellent, but very good nonetheless. The count is steadily ticking upward. I appreciate the negative comments and the dislikes I think even more. Why? Because they point out your flabbiness, your foibles, and your mistakes. They are lightning quick estimations of the reality of your work.
If there were ever a dislike button to be placed back where it once was, we’d probably see a whole host of better videos. YouTube must feel that they’re losing business with the dislike button. That would be the only reason to chuck it. Otherwise, there needs to be a movement #dislikebuttonback.
There’s still an excitement I get when I think about putting up my next video. I know that the hatred is real and that it is palpable. That’s what I savor. Most of the comments are actually funny even if they’re intended to be hurtful. But I am of the idea that honesty isn’t brutal, lying is. The truth shouldn’t hurt, it should help. I have a condition called ptosis. It’s commonly called a lazy eye. It’s where the eyelid can droop and affect vision. Fortunately, I just have myopia and use corrective contact lenses to treat it. The late great Notorious BIG and Aaliyah allegedly had similar conditions. Forest Whitaker currently lives with it. Nevertheless, I am happy that people are making fun of me.
It proves a few things. The touchy-feely nature of people is expressed but they really harbor aggressive and “offensive” tendencies. This small moment led to a life-altering change in my perspective of people. With the cult of negativity which feeds the Internet but has been around since the dawn of man, I know that I can tap into an audience of people who wish to tear down my words. They want to make mincemeat of my ideas. Thanks to the laws of the Web and the private companies of YouTube and its parent Google and its parent Alphabet, I don’t have to worry about not receiving hate. It’s on full display. The irony is that the dislikes still appear on my YouTube page that only I can access.
People with their passive-aggressive illogic and small mentions about my speech and my presentation, even my face should be enough to have been the major impact in my life.
Now, I know that a video (as of this writing) with a mere 300+ views so far is not going to threaten those with billions (yet). I do know that this little detail has propelled me to reconsider virtually everything in my life.
Thanks to media factor Troi “Star” Torain, I have been thrusted onto the stage that would normally see me garner a measly two to ten views. My subscribers have increased to a level that would have taken years to accumulate.
Just this small twist of reality has given me the right motive to always work on my timing and understand the mechanics of analytics and the algorithm. I am more aware of the content I produce on YouTube as I am of what I write on Vocal. It gives me a boost in just thinking about the warehouse of material I am building up and writing down to showcase in the coming weeks. While the show is going to air on the weekend (either Friday or Saturday, again, so far) I plan on gathering new insights over the week and presenting them with justice and truth.
It warms my heart with all the negative comments. I live for them. I really do.
