This is for all my super dry skin people…if your skin is dry, flaky and painful even after applying lotion this is for you. If you are approaching a certain age and suddenly you cannot seem to apply enough cream to soothe your skin, this is for you too. Before you go to a doctor to be checked for skin fungal infection try this first:

To be clear this is a comparison between the “Eucerin Advanced Repair Lotion” for very dry skin (it has urea as the third ingredient) vs “CeraVe Moisturizing Cream” that comes in a big tub, sometimes with a pump. Both products are unscented.

EUCERIN:

This is a lighter lotion that packs a good punch. It goes on light, leaving a very slight oil feeling and film that feels good. The secret ingredient here is urea which draws moisture to the skin. The lotion can be used on its own in fall, spring and summer if your skin is not too dry. For winter it needs a tiny bit more oil for complete relief. In the winter I put about a dime size dollop of lotion on my hand, add a tiny bit of oil (about half or less the amount of lotion), rub together and apply from head to toe. The lotion is light enough to apply a small amount on the face when it is super dry out. It makes a great night moisturizer too.

CERAVE:

This is a thick, rich cream that feels luxurious and provides a nice nongreasy film on the skin. I can get away with using it on its on in the summer but for fall, spring and winter I need to add oil to it. Usually, I pump a dime size dollop of cream on my hand, add about the same amount of oil, rub them together and then apply from neck to toe (it is too thick for the face).

If I was to pick only one of the two products, Cerave would be it. Even if it needs more oil for the perfect feel in super dry weather, it provides a much more moisturizing cushion to the skin. When I use it without oil in the summer it almost feels a little dry/powder-like, while still moisturizing.

One last point: I have had the best results when adding oil to both products. As we age our skin cannot produce as much oil as needed, and adding it to our cream/lotion is the perfect solution. You need an oil blend that has a good balance between fast absorbing oils, for a more conditioning effect, and ones that linger a little to help seal in the moisture from your cream/lotion. The best I have found so far is the “Acacia Well Body” body oil. It is rich but not greasy. Sometimes when in a rush I apply the oil minus cream/lotion, and it holds its own for at least 24 hours.

I've always had horribly dry skin. As a kid I used to have to use this thick icky "lotion" on my hands & sleep with gloves only to find a bit of relief. Now decades later - it's my legs that are dry! So dry, in fact, that they're super itchy! Recently I started scratching them in my sleep & waking up with them bleeding! They were even starting to scar! I'd never used Cerve but had heard it was one of the best - and I was skeptical still because I'd also read on Sephora about people using it as a facial moisturizer in their skin care routine - which in in my mind meant it might not be enough for my dry skin elsewhere (it would either be not be strong enough or it'd far too strong for any facial skin type). The moment I put it on it soothed my itchy skin & there was an immediately noticeable difference in the look & feel of my skin. It is instantly moisturizering without feeling thick or sticky - it's almost like it's a whipped moisturizer, light & fluffy even! And there's a very slight but pleasant scent. Ive hardly noticed it so I cant even tell you exactly what it smells like bc I havent noticed it enough to have thought about it! I've used it at least 2 if not 3 times a day everyday for at least 3 weeks now - & my dry skin isn't perfectly cured. It does still itch occasionally but the difference Cereve has made has been HUGE!! No product is perfect but this is the closest I've found! I absolutely recommend it.

My best friend told me about this and she learned about it from a dermatologist on YouTube. Yeah, well it's perfect and amazing and NO adverse affects from it. I'm usually breaking out in hives or getting really itchy from moisturizers. This soothes sensitive skin without being an oily ointment and it sinks in well--you don't have greasy slippery hands for an hour. I have to wash my hands frequently and this holds up to a couple washings. It's helped me keep my hands from turning raw and reddened. There's no scent. It doesn't smell like chemicals. I had such good success with this cream that I tried their other products. It also stopped the painful dry winter skin. The chlorine and whatever they have in the municipal water for the shower is harsh. I love this cream to soothe that tight, sunburned type of feeling. It's also amazing if you put it on after a shower to keep your elbows and feet from being crocodile skin. It really has staying power. Worth the money when you think about how much you spend on 2-3 containers of cheap stuff that you have to put on so many times and it never really changes your skin. This formula is a must-have for winter climates too--dry indoor heating and those hot showers you take to get the feeling back in your hands and feet. No longer have any issues. LOVE YOU, CERAVE!
