A Home is my Dream

Dream Home Contest

A dream home...

Is that a home I’ve dreamed of? Is it a place? Where my heart is? I know I long for one. A home to settle my heart and heal. My heart aches for the place to rest and recover; to cleanse from the outside reality. A safe haven. A place that is mine to have and hold.

I close my eyes and I hear and feel the wind through the trees and leaves. The light sent of bright and vibrant flowers reaches and dances with the smell of the earth and sea. Birds chitter and dogs beckon, welcoming me home.

Opening my eyes, I see a grand and beautiful, little cottage. Pale green siding and sandstone walls guild my eyes to a pop of happiness. A warm orange door waits invitingly to welcome you into her arms. A sigh is heard. My home is happy I’m back. Then the heals of my people begin, and a quick attack of barks and kisses and joy begin as my pups share their love.

Taking a breath, the smells of incense and fresh air mingle. Warmth and sweetness and freedom swirl together. Another lovely welcome home.

The cool tiles beckon me forward into the warmth and colors. So many colors. So bright, it makes your soul feel warm. A fireplace sits along the center wall, ready whenever needed to give that extra warmth when the cold seems to the bones. Beautiful soft and lovingly-worn wood from a country of liveliness, calm and colorful and spicy foods fill the room. A vibrant and cool couch beckons a nap with a warm cream blanket lying in wait. Pushing down the urge to just lay on the soft, smooth cushions aside, things are in order.

Walking through the kitchen, having herbs scent the room. A cookie jar sits to the side, expecting a thief at any moment. Though for some reason, it never gets empty. Continueinf to walk past more colors, bright open windows release more fresh air into the home. And light. So much light fills the house to the brim. As if not a single spec is allowed to be dark.

Passing the rooms that have other signs of life and laughter, I head towards my greatest sense of relief and pride. Opening the door I reach nirvana. High pale ceilings with beautiful tapestries draped along the adjacent walls. A canopy bed, so fluffy you could get lost in it beckon. Your feet finally reach an edge, and the colorful and vibrant rug feels soft and smooth on tired feet.

A few more steps and a private retreat is never needed outside these walls. Pale woods and light greens. Cream tells your soul to rest and says hello again. Lavender and green freshen the air and await the steam.

Home. It’s funny how it’s different from house. A house you to back to. A home you wish you were at all day. A home makes you ache with longing to breathe freely again and feel safe. I long for a home.

I’ll find it someday. Becuase my dream is a home.
